AEC Skyline recently acquired three former Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) L-39ZA/ART Albatros training/close air support aircraft, thereby significantly expanding its existing contract air fleet.

Being collected from Thailand as we speak, the L-39ZA/ART jet aircraft are equipped with their original mission computer and underwing hardpoints with relevant wiring needed for weapons delivery still being intact.

Retired by the RTAF in 2021 after having entered service in the mid-1990s, they are part of a joint deal with the International Test Pilots School (ITPS), the world’s biggest independent school of experimental flight testing, also getting a number of these high performance aircraft.

Also included in the transfer are spare engines and stocks of spare parts for both parties.

By acquiring these aircraft AEC Skyline will be capable of increasing its level of JTAC close air support training, an area in which it has been active for over 30 years.

PH to Get More USV Platforms from US

21 November 2024

Mantas T-12 USV (photo: Martac)

MANILA – The Philippines is expected to receive more unmanned surveillance platforms from the United States through its USD500 million Foreign Military Financing (FMF), US Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III said.

"I just watched the Philippine Navy demonstrate the capabilities of a T-12 unmanned surface vessel (USV). A T-12 is one of several unmanned capabilities funded and delivered this year through the US security assistance. We expect to see many more platforms like this delivered with the USD500 million in FMF that I announced during my visit in July, to help ensure that the Philippines has the capabilities and means to defend its rights and its sovereignty throughout its exclusive economic zone (EEZ)," Austin said during a joint press conference at the Western Command headquarters in Puerto Princesa, Palawan Tuesday afternoon.

Also called "Mantas T-12," this particular USV has a length of 3.6 meters and has a maximum payload of 64 kg. and is considered a solid system for littoral environments.

It is equipped with an all-electric powertrain and payload management systems and can be deployed from shore, ship, or boat with supporting launch and recovery equipment.

The T-12 can also integrate "above and below-surface sensors," such as electro-optical cameras, sonars, light detection, and ranging and acoustic modems to expand its mission profile.

"America is profoundly committed to the defense of the Philippines. Our commitment to the Mutual Defense Treaty is ironclad and let me say again, the Mutual Defense Treaty applies to armed attacks on either of our armed forces, aircraft, or public vessels, including our coast guards, anywhere in the South China Sea. The past few years have been a period of truly historic progress for the US-Philippine alliance," Austin said.

Asked whether cyber and asymmetric capabilities would be among the first items to be delivered to the Philippines under the new USD500 million FMF agreement, he said that Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. has already identified the priority equipment.

"Certainly, the Secretary (Teodoro) has identified what his priorities are, and we will work with them to fill those priorities. But we want to make sure that we're doing everything that we can to help him increase his domain awareness, his ability to protect the sovereign territory, and its interests. And cyber plays a critical role in that respect, and you saw evidence of that earlier today. When the T-12 was on display out there, a T-12, as you know, a fundamental part of that is the ability to command and control that using cyber capabilities," the US defense chief said.

Austin was in the Philippines for a two-day visit.

On Monday, Austin and Teodoro signed the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA), a critical step to enhance information sharing and deepen interoperability between Manila and Washington DC.

The two defense chiefs also led the groundbreaking ceremony for a new bilateral Combined Coordination Center.

These bilateral undertakings will improve joint efforts to plan bilateral exercises, operations, and humanitarian response efforts to address common challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

On Tuesday, Austin, along with Teodoro, visited the Antonio Bautista Airbase in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, one of the nine identified Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites in the country.

US, UK and Australia Sign Hypersonic Weapons Deal

Accelerated delivery of AUKUS Pillar II Hypersonic Systems

Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States have reached a milestone agreement to accelerate the testing of hypersonic vehicles and related technologies.

Under AUKUS Pillar II, the Hypersonic Flight Test and Experimentation (HyFliTE) Project Arrangement (PA) will enable the three nations to accelerate development, testing and evaluation of innovative hypersonic systems.

HyFliTE represents new heights of collaboration amongst AUKUS partners through shared testing facilities and pooling our deep collective technical expertise.

This development follows the AUKUS Defence Ministers' Meeting on 26 September where it was announced that the three nations were increasing their collective ability to develop and deliver offensive and defensive hypersonic technologies under Pillar II.

Hypersonic weapons are long-range strike missiles that can travel five times the speed of sound. They could be launched from the land, sea, or air.

The PA will incorporate existing national efforts, including multiple test flights across all nations, giving the AUKUS effort on hypersonics a strong boost.

These flight tests will accelerate the development of hypersonic concepts and critical enabling technologies.

Development of hypersonic technology is a key Defence priority, identified in the 2024 National Defence Strategy. It is a capability that can hold time critical and heavily defended targets at risk from increased ranges, enhancing the survivability of the Australian Defence Force against potential threats.

“This agreement will accelerate Australia’s sovereign ability to develop and deliver offensive and defensive hypersonic technologies – through a robust testing and experimentation campaign under AUKUS Pillar II,” Chief Defence Scientist, Professor Tanya Monro AC, said.

“HyFliTE will leverage our collective expertise and innovation enterprises to deliver hypersonic capabilities at pace.”

Australia remains committed to its domestic and international legal obligations as it pursues hypersonic technologies.

Filipina Memilih LIG Nex1 Untuk Memasok Rudal Anti-Tank AT-1K Raybolt

20 November 2024

Rudal anti tank AT-1K Raybolt (photo: LIG Nex1)

Five US-made T-6 Texan II Training Aircraft Arrived Home

20 November 2024

Beechcraft T6C Texan II of the Vietnam People's Air Force reg number 601 (photo: Vietnam Defence)

Five special planes landed at Tan So Nhat International Airport Ho Chi Minh City on the morning of November 18, 2024. These are US-made military pilot training planes called T6 Texan II. What's special is that these carry the flag and insignia of the Vietnam People's Air Force on the fuselage.

Currently, they still have the US registration number, as the first plane landing has the registration number N27. However, if we look closely, we can also see the number 601 on the fuselage of the plane behind the Vietnam People's Air Force insignia. Perhaps after it has been handed over to the Vietnam People's Air Force, it will have its US registration number removed.

The first T6 Texan II landed at Tan So Nhat International Airport and not only this one but five, ones followed one another. They came with the other,  it is said that the T6s chosen by Vietnam are the T6C Texan II version.

This is the modern version equipped with a glass cockpit, ECS screen kit, and hardpoints under the wings that can hang weapons, and here can see the T6C Texan IIs landing with two auxiliary fuel tanks to increase the flying range.

Vietnam People's Air Force has become an air force with the most comprehensive training capabilities in the region of Southeast Asia with both Western and Russian aircraft systems training systems.

Vietnam's military pilots according to Russian standards have been completed for a long time with training aircraft from basic to advanced from Yak-52 to L39C, L39NG, and Yak-130 and then the fighter pilots can be assigned to Air Force regiments depending on the Air Force regiment to switch to Su-22, Su-27, or Su30MK2

These T6 Texan IIs returning to the country will supplement the ability to train pilots according to the Western aircraft system initially will be the transport air force of the current Vietnamese people.

The air force is also mainly using Western-made aircraft such as CASA C-212, and C-295 and maybe in the near future Vietnam will have C-130J made by the US being equipped with T6 Texan II training aircraft.

First of all, the transport air force of Vietnam will not need to send pilots abroad for basic training saving both time and budget.

These planes fly from the Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok where it had made a transit to the Tan So Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

It is said that these planes are piloted by American pilots they have made a very long journey from the US Crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Europe then crossing the Mediterranean to Africa Middle East Central Asia Southeast Asia and from Thailand flying back to Vietnam.

Congratulations to the five newest planes of the Vietnam People's Air Force who have returned to their nests.
