CANBERRA, Australia – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has partnered with ViaSat and Optus to offer the Australian Defence Force (ADF) a proven solution for its utilisation of the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system.
Under the team's response to the ADF's tender request, Australia has the opportunity to gain access to Northrop Grumman's Satellite Communications Operations and Planning Element (SCOPE) network management system, which is the only managing, operating and monitoring system that has already been successfully integrated with the WGS. Northrop Grumman's network management system has been employed by U.S. Army Strategy Command for more than 15 years, and is critical to the successful operation of all six WGS satellites currently in orbit.
"Australia has invested approximately AU$1billion in WGS communications capabilities. Northrop Grumman's offering will give Australia the ability to fully utilise this capability at the same standard as the U.S. military," said Ian Irving, chief executive, Northrop Grumman Australia. "This program will form the core of the ADF's sovereign capability in network management. We have developed unrivaled capabilities over 15 years of working closely with the WGS program in the United States and look forward to working with the ADF to support and further develop this technology in Australia."
The team would also offer the proven performance of the ViaSat dual-band satellite terminals. ViaSat brings a long and successful history of delivering satellite communications terminals to customers in the United States and Canada, and most recently delivered 10 complete ground stations for Australia's National Broadband Network (NBN) program.
"Since 2012 ViaSat has been working with NBN Co. as the prime contractor for the NBN Long Term Satellite Service ground system, which is a very similar system to that required by the ADF" said Colin Cooper, General Manager, Government and Defence, ViaSat Australia. "No other company has our level of experience in delivering large satellite ground stations in remote regions of Australia."
The team would also offer the unrivaled Australian satellite operating experience of Optus. "We are pleased to be part of the Northrop Grumman team's bid to deliver this important capability to the Australian Defence Force," said Paul Sheridan, Vice President of Optus Satellite. "Optus has been successfully operating Australian satellites for over three decades. Optus' long term relationship with the ADF through our C1 satellite positions us well to complement the team's impressive capabilities moving forward."
The Northrop Grumman-led team offers the ADF a comprehensive, mature and proven solution which will allow Australia to take full advantage of its investment in the world-leading WGS network.

Satelit Lapan A3
Selain sibuk menyempurnakan A2, ternyata sebagian ahli sedang sibuk merakit komponen satelit selanjutnya, yakni Lapan A3.
"A3 kami rencanakan tahun depan," terangnya.
Satelit Lapan A2 (photo : Lapan)
Satelit Lapan A4

SEATTLE – Boeing [NYSE: BA] will provide the first P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft for Australia and additional P-8As for the U.S. Navy following a $1.49 billion contract award from the Navy for 13 aircraft.
The order includes nine aircraft for the U.S. Navy and four Poseidon aircraft for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), a long-time partner to the U.S. Navy on P-8A development.
“By working together since the early stages of P-8A development, the U.S. and Australia have created one airplane configuration that serves the needs of both countries,” said Capt. Scott Dillon, U.S. Navy P-8 program manager. “The U.S. and Australian P-8As will be able to operate with each other effectively and affordably for decades to come.”
This latest award puts Boeing on contract to build the Navy’s second lot of full-rate production aircraft, bringing the U.S. Navy’s fleet total to 62 P-8As. Boeing has delivered 28 Poseidons to date.
“Delivering premier aircraft on schedule and on cost has become a hallmark of the P-8 program,” said James Dodd, Boeing vice president and general manager of Mobility, Surveillance and Engagement. “We look forward to building on Boeing’s long-standing relationship with Australia by providing the quality, value and capability of the P-8A.”
Based on Boeing’s Next-Generation 737-800 commercial airplane, the P-8A offers the worlds’ most advanced anti-submarine, anti-surface warfare and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. The Navy has deployed the first two P-8A patrol squadrons since operations started in 2013.

Kemudian, berdasarkan Sprin Danbrigif-1 PIK/JS Nomor Sprin/083/VI/1992 tertanggal 4 Juni 1992, berubah menjadi Tontaikam dengan jumlah personil 41 orang,” ungkap Danton Taikam Brigif-1 PIK/JS Lettu (Inf) Nanang Eko Nugroho, Kamis (27/8/2015).

Japan Launches Second Izumo Class Helicopter Carrier

Japan launches new helicopter carrier named after WWII ship
Japan has launched a new helicopter carrier, which is one of the country’s biggest warships since World War II. The name of the ship has stirred controversy, as it’s the same as that of a vessel that participated in the 1941 Pearl Harbor attacks.
Japanese second largest naval vessel – the helicopter carrier “Kaga” – was launched at the Japan Marine United shipyard in Yokohama on Thursday and is due to be commissioned in March 2017, Sputnik reports.
The 24,000 ton vessel is the second and the final ship of this class, following another helicopter carrier named “Izumo,” which was launched in August 2013 and came into service in the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) in March 2015.
Officially named after the Japanese province of Kaga, the new ship has sparked controversy, since it shares the name of an aircraft carrier that was deployed by Japan during WWII.
The original Kaga took part in the bombardments of the China’s eastern coast including the cities of Shanghai and Nanjing in 1937. Later, it also was a part of the naval group that attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Eventually, the ship was sunk by the US navy in the Battle of Midway in June 1942.
The Chinese found the choice of the name offending, with the countries’ media outlets reminding of the bombings carried out by planes launched from the original Kaga warship. This name “might be perceived as a symbol of resurrected militarism,” said chinanews.com.
China’s media also reports that another Japanese new helicopter carrier – Izumo – also has a controversial predecessor – a cruiser lending artillery support to the Japanese troops during the capturing of Shanghai in 1937 during the Second Sino-Japanese war.
Japanese officials said that the primary roles of the two modern helicopter carriers are peaceful, such as humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations. However, they have also mentioned that the ships could be used in anti-submarine warfare.
The ships “heighten our ability to deal with Chinese submarines that have become more difficult to detect,” a JMSDF officer told Japan’s Asahi Shimbun newspaper in March.
Kaga will carry seven Mitsubishi-built SH-60k anti-submarine patrol helicopters able to detect sophisticated Chinese submarines as well as seven Agusta Westland MCM-101 mine countermeasure helicopters, according to the US Naval Institute's News.
However, the ships also have potential to launch American the built assault transport MV-22 as well as Lockheed Martin F-35 Lighting II Joint Strike Fighter with the short takeoff and vertical landing.
Japan denies any plans for the helicopter carriers to host any Joint Strike Fighters with some Japan’s neighboring countries claiming that the ships’ configuration itself allows them to serve as aircraft carriers.
The aircraft carriers are considered to be offensive weapons and are banned under the Japanese constitution.
Kaga will become Japan’s fourth helicopter carrier as, apart from Izumo, two 18,300-ton Hyuga-class helicopter carriers are also in operation with the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force.

Vietnam is interested in buying 14 fast patrol boats for an approximate US $212 million from Indian Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE).
“Tomorrow a Vietnamese delegation is coming to see our facility and to discuss on procuring about 14 fast patrol boats for coastal surveillance,” GRSE chairman and managing director Admiral A K Verma said today at MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry during an interactive session with the Ambassador of Vietnam.
Verma said tentative cost for the boats could be in the range of $15 million each.
GRSE officials said the Vietnamese delegation had also visited the L&T and Pipavav shipyards, but it was not clear whether it was for the procurement of patrol boats.
GRSE has already produced 18 similar fast patrol boats for the coast guard in the past.
“We have the design, knowhow and capability to produce. We have done in the past and are very hopeful to get this export order,” Verma said.
The contract was expected to be finalized by the year end and if it sailed through, then it would be the second export order for GRSE after an offshore class vessel worth $54 million order for Mauritius.

Malaysia and France in talks over the acquisition of the French Dassault Aviation Rafale multi-role combat aircraft (photo : Rafalenews)
KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry will proceed with acquiring the armed forces’ assets under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) despite the current economic challenges.
Its minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said that the ministry and the armed forces (ATM) will continue giving their undivided attention to 11MP despite facing global, regional and national economic challenges.
“This is important. We can’t deny that the economic situation globally, regionally and nationally is challenging. But I am confident that with careful planning by the ministry and the ATM, we will be able to overcome these challenges,” he explained.
According to Hishammuddin, the economic situation will not harm the core of the ministry’s “business” which was to ensure national security and boost the morale of ATM personnel and its veterans.
Hishammuddin said among efforts to be taken by the ministry were the upgrading of the ‘Nuri’ Sikorsky S-61A-4 helicopter, Hercules C-130, Laksamana Class Corvette and the acquisition of other assets for the three wings of ATM.
He added that the acquisitions were to meet the needs of the armed forces and overcome threats to national security.
Hishammuddin confirmed that French Defence Minister Jean Yves Le Drian will be visiting the country on Tuesday and that discussions over the acquisition of the French Dassault Aviation Rafale multi-role combat aircraft might be carried out.
“If it is within our ability, I would like the acquisition to be considered. The technical aspects will be accessed by the air force.
“The economic viability and buying power is under the purview of the Finance Ministry,” he said.
According to Hishammuddin, the acquisition can only be carried out if the financial package offered fulfilled the requirements set by the Finance Ministry.
“It can be done in the near future, and with transparency. The asset is not cheap, and it must be accepted by the public.
“It must be something that we need, but at the same time we must be realistic on whether or not we can afford it,” he clarified.
Hishammuddin spoke to reporters at the Defence Ministry yesterday after presenting awards of excellence to children of the armed forces’ personnel, who performed well in the recent Form Three Assessment (PT3) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

CANBERRA, Australia – Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has awarded a second Australian supplier contract to Mincham Aviation for the U.S. Navy's MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft system (UAS) initial production lot.
South Australia-based Mincham Aviation will manufacture aircraft structure components for the first low-rate production lot of four Triton air vehicles. This second supplier contract follows one awarded in July to Ferra Engineering for mechanical sub-assemblies.
"We are pleased to be able to further demonstrate our ongoing commitment to developing and fostering capabilities in local supply chains," said Ian Irving, chief executive, Northrop Grumman Australia. "We will continue to look to offer opportunities to quality-focused Australian companies to be involved in the production and sustainment of Triton, which will be one of the U.S. Navy's and Royal Australian Air Force's key capabilities for many years to come."
Northrop Grumman's engagement with Mincham Aviation and Ferra Engineering were facilitated through the Australian Department of Defence's Global Supply Chain program. Under the Global Supply Chain initiative, international companies such as Northrop Grumman can assess Australian industry and provide them the opportunity to compete for business around the world on a value-for-money basis.
Australian companies have also received requests from Northrop Grumman for quotations to provide components for follow-on low rate production lots. These industry opportunities include cables, complex machined and composite assemblies, as well as special tooling and test equipment.
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced his government's intent to purchase the Triton UAS for high-altitude, long-endurance surveillance missions in March 2014. Triton can fly missions up to 24 hours and at altitudes of over 55,000 feet, covering vast areas of ocean and coastal regions. Its unique sensor suite provides a continuous on-station presence in a 360-degree field of view for some of the most demanding surveillance missions.

Selesai Peremajaan, Tahun 2016 Pesawat C-130 Hercules Kembali Beroperasi

"Tergantung dilihat kerusakannya seperti apa.

Russia's New MiG-35 May Replace Vietnam's Aging Fighter Jets

Russia's MiG-35 multirole fighter jets may be coming to Vietnam, where the useful life of the country's third-generation MiG-21 fighter jets is coming to an end, the head of MiG aircraft manufacturer Sergei Korotkov told RIA Novosti.
The MiG-35 is a new multirole fighter which includes fifth-generation information and sighting systems. According to Korotkov, Southeast Asia is an "interesting region" for the aircraft manufacturer when it comes to prospective sales.
"According to our evaluation, there are definite prospects for MiG-35s in Vietnam, where the expected life of MiG-21 fighter jets is coming to an end," Korotkov told RIA Novosti.
Korotkov added that interest in MiG-35 planes is growing in India, in part because French Rafale fighter jet shipments are limited. The purchase of MiG-35s to replace India's aging fighter jet fleet is being discussed in India's professional circles, according to Korotkov.
"Unlike the 'classic' MiG-29, from which the MiG-35 inherited its aerodynamic concepts, the new machine is multirole. It can employ high-precision weaponry on any targets, air, ground or sea. It can even perform some functions which were earlier entrusted to reconnaissance planes," Korotkov added.
MiG is currently modernizing India's MiG-29 planes in collaboration with the local aerospace industry to the MiG-29UPG standard under a $1.2 billion 2010 contract. MiG is also supplying MiG-29K carrier-based fighter jets to the country.

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) are co-hosting the 6th Western Pacific Mine Countermeasure Exercise (WP MCMEX) from 25 to 31 August 2015. The Singapore's Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral (RADM) Lai Chung Han, officiated at the opening ceremony of the exercise at the Changi Command and Control Centre this morning.
More than 800 personnel, 13 ships and five underwater vehicle teams from 16 countries are participating in this year's exercise. The exercise includes professional exchanges, and will culminate in a five-day mine-hunting and mine-sweeping sea phase in the Singapore Strait and the waters off the Indonesian island of Pulau Bintan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, RADM Lai highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation in maintaining the freedom of navigation in the sea lines of communication, and the need to remain vigilant and ready to respond to a myriad of threats. RADM Lai said, "As navies, we not only need to be on top of today's challenges - and we have many - we also need to be in time for the future...the activities carried out in the 6th WP MCMEX will build capacity and strengthen interoperability between exercise participants. Beyond delivering professional benefits, multilateral exercises such as this are useful platforms for forging friendships and strengthening mutual understanding."
The WP MCMEX is conducted under the ambit of the Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS), which promotes mutual understanding, friendship, professionalism and interoperability among the personnel of the participating navies. The participation of the WPNS countries in the exercise reflects their strong commitment to multilateral cooperation and the promotion of regional security. The co-hosting of the exercise by the RSN and the TNI AL also reflects the close and long-standing cooperation between the two navies.

Zon Kenali Senjata ATM : Metis-M

The Philippine Air Force’s transport capabilities will be boosted greatly with the scheduled arrival of two more EADS CASA C-295 medium-lift transports before the end of 2015. PAF chief Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Delgado said the aircraft will be delivered during the last quarter of the year.
Earlier, Col. Enrico Canaya, PAF spokesperson, said “the additional C-295s will enhance the overall capability of the PAF in providing airlift requirements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines during humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations.”
The Air Force’s first C-295 was commissioned last March 31. It joins the three other Lockheed C-130 “Hercules” heavy transports being operated by the PAF.
The Philippine contract for the three C-295 is worth PhP5.29 billion. It was signed last year.
The C-295 is categorized as medium lift aircraft equivalent to the Fokker F-27 aircraft being maintained by the 220th Airlift Wing. The C-295s have rear ramp door similar to that of the C-130s for easier access and loading/unloading of passengers and cargoes.
