Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia baru-baru ini mengumumkan tender untuk mengundang perusahaan lokal untuk memasok 800 unit M72 LAW-EC (Light Anti-tank Weapon Enhanced Capability) untuk Brigade Para ke-10, demikian unggahan Malaysian Defence belum lama ini.
M72-EC LAW diproduksi oleh perusahaan Norwegia-Finlandia, Nammo, senjata ini diharapkan dapat menggantikan RPG-7 buatan Rusia yang ada dalam inventaris Brigade. Untuk senjata roket anti-tank/senjata anti-tank ringan (LAW) Angkatan Darat Malaysia juga mengoperaikan Carl Gustav 84mm (Goose), dan Instalanza C90, namun untuk pasukan khusus GGK juga dilengkapi dengan Saab Bofors AT4.
Adapun pemilihan persyaratan M72-EC sebagai senjata anti-tank ringan untuk Brigade Para ke-10 yang akan digunakan untuk operasi dan pelatihan harus memenuhi syarat-syarat berikut ini.
-Senjata tersebut akan digunakan untuk menembus kendaraan lapis baja ringan, tempat penempatan senjata, bunker, benteng, atau target keras yang setara.
-Senjata tersebut akan mudah dibawa oleh personel tanpa menurunkan mobilitas mereka selama infiltrasi dan eksfiltrasi melalui laut, udara, atau darat.
-Sifat operasi udara untuk melakukan operasi ofensif dan defensif memerlukan karakteristik senjata yang ringan, mandiri dengan daya tembak yang efektif, dan sekali pakai/disposable.
Tender pengadaan M72 LAW-EC ini akan ditutup pada akhir Juli 2024.
