Pembuat kapal Jerman thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (tkMS) telah menyiapkan kapal selam diesel-listrik (SSK) Tipe 218SG pertama di kelasnya untuk dikirim ke Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).
Kapal selam yang akan beroperasi sebagai "RSS Invincible" telah menyelesaikan tugasnya sebagai kapal pelatihan dan sosialisasi bagi awak kapal selam RSN.
Kapal ini akan segera menuju Singapura dan saat ini dijadwalkan akan ditugaskan pada akhir tahun 2024.
"Invincible" adalah salah satu dari empat SSK Tipe 218SG yang dipesan berdasarkan dua kontrak terpisah yang ditandatangani antara tkMS dan Kementerian Pertahanan Singapura masing-masing pada tahun 2013 dan 2017.
Kapal ini diluncurkan pada Februari 2019 tetapi tetap berada di Jerman sejak itu untuk tujuan pelatihan kapal selam.
Kapal kedua "Impeccable" diluncurkan pada Desember 2022 dengan kapal selam ketiga "Illustrious". Kapal selam terakhir dalam program ini, "Inimitable" mulai berlayar pada April 2024.
"Impeccable" adalah kapal pertama yang dikirim ke RSN. Kapal ini tiba di Pangkalan Angkatan Laut Changi Singapura pada Juli 2023 dan memulai uji coba laut di perairan setempat pada bulan yang sama.
Untuk perjalanannya ke Singapura, "Impeccable" diangkut dengan kapal angkut angkat berat, MV Rolldock Storm.
Kelas "Invincible" memiliki panjang keseluruhan 70 m dan diameter lambung bertekanan 6,3 m. Beratnya mencapai 2.200 ton saat terendam dan 2.000 ton saat muncul ke permukaan.

2024 CASE STILL ONGOING = The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said its investigation into Malaysia's acquisition of the Scorpene submarines in 2002 is still ongoing.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the commission is still in contact with parties abroad to obtain more information.
