Last February, the Sea Acceptance Test (SAT) for the last of the three Del Pilar Class Offshore Patrol Vessels from the Philippine Navy took place in Subic Bay, Philippines. HUNTER 2.0 active and passive surveillance sonar successfully exceeded all SAT specifications for all three vessels.
ELAC SONAR delivered three HUNTER systems for the Del Pilar Class OPV for the Philippine Navy under a contract signed in 2020 and the systems were installed on the PS15 - BRP Gregorio Del Pilar, the PS16 – BRP Ramon Alcaraz, and the PS17 – BRP Andres Bonifacio.
This achievement marks a significant milestone in validating the performance and reliability of the HUNTER 2.0 active and passive surveillance in real-world maritime conditions.
HUNTER 2.0 is a hull-mounted sonar carrying out anti-submarine warfare (ASW) in active and passive modes in shallow and deep waters for panoramic detection of submarines and other objects. The system features a forward-looking mine avoidance mode as well.

2. Aging Fleet and High Maintenance Costs
A significant portion of Malondesh military assets is over 30 years old, which directly impacts operational readiness.
• Increased Maintenance Burden: Older vehicles, ships, and aircraft require more frequent and expensive maintenance. A 2021 study revealed that 34 of the RMN's 53 vessels had exceeded their intended service life, with 28 being over 40 years old. This leads to higher maintenance costs and a lower operational tempo.
