Lloyd's Register (LR) has been selected to provide assurance and certification services to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group (HZ) for two significant naval projects with the Algerian Naval Force and the Royal Thai Navy.

The Algerian Naval Force project, consisting of a 96-metre Corvette will be designed and constructed to LR's Naval Ship Rules. The Corvette is designed for operations including patrol, escort and protection of maritime interests within the nation's Exclusive Economic Zone. The Corvette incorporates a helipad and a crew of 78 people, has a range of 3,500 nautical miles and is capable of top speeds in excess of 27 knots. It is scheduled for delivery in 2022.

The second project, a 210-metre Landing Platform Dock (LPD) ship for the Royal Thai Navy, can carry up to 800 marines and 20 amphibious vehicles, and has a well-deck that can deploy up to four Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) vehicles - or hovercrafts - of approximately 150 tonnes each. The ship is also fitted with two large hangars that can carry up to four helicopters and a flight deck that can operate two helicopters. The expected delivery date of the LPD ship is 2023.

In addition to its more traditional role in military amphibious operations, the Royal Thai Navy will also use the LPD ship for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions. The ship is an export variant of LPDs currently in service with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, which are also being built at HZ. LR will provide design and construction certification services to HZ in accordance with LR's Naval Ship Rules.

"Being selected to collaborate on these naval vessels is testament to our longstanding relationship with Hudong-Zhonghua and both navies. We successfully completed work on two 95 m Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) for the Thai Navy between 2003-2006 and supported the construction of three 28,000 tonne Corvettes for the Algerian Navy between 2013 and 2016" said LR head of greater China Maogen Xue.

David Lloyd, LR's Global Naval Business Director said: "We are delighted to have been chosen by Hudong-Zhonghua to support them in these two very different projects, demonstrating LR's ability to provide flexible, tailored naval assurance and certification services that support our clients in the best manner possible. This also attests to the strong relationship between the two companies, as well as the mutual desire to expand the considerable experience in naval shipbuilding the partnership will bring to navies around the world."

RAAF Upgrades F-35 Simulator

30 Juni 2020

The software in the FMSims was upgraded to align with the latest Operational Flight Program (photo : Aus DoD)

The four F-35A Full Mission Simulators (FMSims) currently operational at RAAF Base Williamtown have been successfully upgraded by local experts to support the continued build-up of pilot training at No. 3 Squadron and No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit.

Led by Defence’s F-35A industry partner Lockheed Martin Australia (LMA), the software in the FMSims was upgraded to align with the latest Operational Flight Program (OFP) installed in the aircraft.

Training Systems Manager at the Air Combat Systems Program Office (ACSPO), Harley Doughty, said this was an important step because it was critical the training devices and aircraft operating systems remain aligned.

"Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) in the US was planning to send an installation team to all sites around the world with fielded FMSims to complete the upgrade," Mr Doughty said.

"The upgrade team would have comprised at least three US personnel, including a test pilot. The capability of local simulator technicians from LMA has been growing since 2018, when the F-35A precinct opened at Williamtown and the first FMSims pair was installed and declared ready for training in early 2019."

Mr Doughty said the capabilities of the local team enabled the successful completion of the software installation without the physical presence of the American team, with reach-back support provided by the US, over a two-week period in May.

"All four F-35A FMSims have now been returned to operational service," Mr Doughty said.

"With the freeze on international travel, had a local support option not been available, our FMSims would have been out of alignment with the software configuration of the aircraft. This would have been further compounded when subsequent OFP software upgrades were released."

He said the successful local upgrade was a precedent for future upgrades and could potentially save Australia hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel and support costs over the life of the program.

Officer Commanding ACSPO, Group Captain Al Wherrett, said Defence had developed a strategy to ensure a safe and effective transition of F-35A training from the US to Australia.

"The F-35 Program has been conducting F-35 training in the US for more than six years," Group Captain Wherrett said.

"Australia has leveraged the knowledge from the US experience to establish and grow the sovereign Australian F-35A training system over the past two-to-three years. Simulation plays a key role in F-35A training and Defence is working closely with the F-35 JPO, LM and LMA to ensure training and courseware delivery meets our capability and schedule requirements."

LMA’s Australian F-35 In-Country Lead, Andy Doyle, said LMA had been growing Australian industry expertise in F-35A training support roles at Williamtown since 2018, including pilot and maintenance instructors, courseware developers, simulator technicians and information systems support.

"The software upgrade to the simulators provided a great opportunity for our team to apply their knowledge and skills, and has ensured that the FMSims continue to match the F-35A aircraft software and provide maximum training benefit to the RAAF," Mr Doyle said.

Ten F-35A FMSims will eventually be installed – six at Williamtown and four at RAAF Base Tindal – supporting sovereign F-35A pilot training for the life of the capability.

Which before that year 2018 DTI has taken the self-developed remote turret to test next to the V-100 armored vehicle.

The Thai Army has provided the US Cadillac Gage V-100 Commando 4x4 armored vehicle since the beginning of the year. In 1972 of 6 units and additional supplies in the year 1975 another 20 units were stationed in the cavalry as the first unit that was later assigned to the newer V-150 armored vehicles.

A number of V-100 armored vehicles that had been retired from the Thai Army have been used for modernization. By installing a new diesel engine and power transmission system including air conditioning for reuse Such as use as a vehicle to test new weapon systems in the above

It has been observed from the picture set above that the new Remote turret tested on the V-100 armored Thai Army vehicle looks like the PROTECTOR Dual Remote Weapon Station (RWS) turret of Kongsberg, Norway.

The Kongsberg PROTECTOR Dual RWS turret supports mounting 7.62mm machine guns, such as the .38 FN MAG cover with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun, such as the M2 .50cal or the 40x53mm automatic grenade launcher such as the STK 40 AGL in Singapore. Thailand will continue to test etc.

The Kongsberg PROTECTOR family of RWS turrets were procured for installation on the M1126 Stryker ICV (Infantry Carrier Vehicle) 8x8, the US Army. The M151 Protector can be attached to the 7.62x51mm M240 machine gun (FN MAG Belgian stationed in the US Army) or the M2 .50cal heavy machine gun or 40mm Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher with a grenade launcher, With four M6 smoke bombs.

As the Thai Army was the first export customer for the Stryker RTA ICV 8x8 armored personnel carrier at the 112th Infantry Regiment at Chachoengsao 11th Infantry Division. The weapon set against the Stryker rubber wheeled vehicle. The current Thai army is the cover of the 93 M2 Flex .50cal or STK 40 AGL automatic turret using the turret outside the car, with the shield. It is possible that there may be plans to improve the installation of the new Remote Turret tested with the latest V-100 armored vehicles.

Oto Melara 76mm Compact Naval Gun (photo : Naval Technology)

The Philippine Navy may receive a 76mm Oto Melara compact naval gun from United States through Excess Defense Articles (EDA) Program.

“It appears that the Philippine Navy is in line to receive a 76mm Oto Melara Compact naval gun from US EDA,” MaxDefense Philippines said June 24 adding that the said naval gun “might be bound for one of the Tarlac-class landing platform dock.”

“The request appears to have been already made and is being processed by the US government for approval. Its highly possible that the gun might have been previously installed on an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, many of which were already retired and scrapped / disposed off by the US Navy,” MaxDefense said.

According to US government, excess defense articles are US Department of Defense and US Coast Guard-owned articles no longer needed and declared excess by the US Armed Forces.

“This excess equipment may be offered at reduced or no cost to eligible foreign recipients on an “as is, where is” basis in support of U.S. national security and foreign policy objectives,” the US government says.

Spek Persenjataan Iver class Selesai Diputuskan

29 Juni 2020

-1x Leonardo 76 mm, meriam utama,
-1x Rheinmetall Milenium 35 mm, meriam CIWS,
-Leonardo A244/S Mod-3, torpedo,
-MBDA Exocet MM40 Block 3, 8 cells, rudal anti kapal,
-MBDA VL Mica, 16 cells, rudal pertahanan udara,
-2x FN M3 12.7 mm,
-2x Torpedo Decoy System,
Defense Studies telah melakukan konfirmasi pada sumber yang dapat dipercaya bahwa spesifikasi ini benar sebagai persenjataan standar dengan sistem sebagian besar FFBNW (fit for but not with).

Modul Stanflex

Tested in 1962 and officially put into service by the Soviet Army in 1974. Initially, the designers calculated to install AT-5 on armored vehicles such as BMP-2, BRDM -2, but then the rocket also uses improved 9P135M launchers of AT-4 to be carried.

At the time of its debut, AT-5 was considered to be comparable with other French and Italian anti-tank missiles like HOT or MILAN but much more compact and versatile.

Later when the tank's passive defense system was enhanced with explosive reactive armor, the AT-5 had an improved version of the AT-5B Konkurs-M with a tandem serial double-deck explosive. Konkurs-M missiles are still used in the Russian Army.

Basic specifications of the Konkurs 9M113 anti-tank missile include: a length of 1.15 m; diameter of 0,135 m; wingspan: 0.468 m; weight 14.6 kg; warhead: 2.7 kg HEAT; range: 0.07 - 4.0 km; 600 mm penetration force uniform armor.

HMAS Warramunga has passed a significant milestone in its Anzac Class Midlife Capability Assurance Program at Henderson Shipyard, Western Australia, with the installation of a new mast.

The upgrade program, known as AMCAP and being implemented by the Warship Asset Management Agreement (WAMA) Alliance, is now onto its third Anzac Class Frigate after HMA Ships Arunta and Anzac completed the upgrade in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Major Projects Implementation Manager Commander Mark Williams said the new mast was designed to accommodate the SEA 1448 Phase 4B - Long Range Air Search Radar, as well as provide an improved Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) capability. Both of the new radar systems were designed by Canberra-based company CEA Technologies.

“Effective search radars form an integral part of a ship’s capability and as such it is imperative the technology used in that system is the latest that’s available,” Commander Williams said.

“The SPS-49, which is being replaced as part of AMCAP, has served the frigates well but it is important to keep pace with modern technology to maintain the robust frontline capability provided by these ships.

“CEA Technologies is an Australian company that has a history of working with Navy in the design and support of systems for the Anzac Class Frigates.

“CEA also developed the highly successful anti-ship missile defence radar known as CEAFAR which is currently installed on the frigates.”

The new 1448 mast was designed and built by BAE Systems to support the CEAFAR2-L Phased Array Radar capability, in addition to the existing CEAFAR1-S and 1-X PAR capabilities.

The Anzac Class Midlife Capability Assurance Program ensures that Anzac Class Frigates will be sustained for the remainder of their service life, allowing them to remain an effective fighting unit until they are replaced by the Hunter Class Frigate fleet.

The WAMA Alliance is a strategic partnership between the Commonwealth of Australia, BAE Systems, SAAB Australia, and Naval Ship Management Australia to deliver total asset management of the Anzac Class Frigates.
