The SAF will acquire three Gulfstream G550-Maritime Surveillance Aircraft; and reposition its Cyber Defence Test and Evaluation Centre as an Experimentation Centre.

This is part of a 4-prong approach highlighted by Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing – Capabilities for the SAF to be a credible armed force, Commitment to Singapore’s defence, Contributions from the wider community and diversified portfolio of Connections – for MINDEF and the SAF to continue to defend Singapore amid wide-ranging challenges.

On the first, he said that robust conventional capabilities remain core to a strong and credible deterrence. “We must continue to modernise and upgrade them to keep pace with the threats around us,” said Mr Chan.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force will acquire three Gulfstream G550-Maritime Surveillance Aircraft (MSA) to provide better early warning of maritime threats.

Together with the Boeing P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, the G550-MSA will support the SAF’s mission in safeguarding Singapore’s Sea Lines of Communication as part of Singapore’s maritime security surveillance network.

Hanwha Defence Australia (HDA) has welcomed the first three Australian-made AS9 HuntsmanSelf-Propelled Howitzers (SPH) made at the Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE) in Victoria.

Joining the three vehicles (Batch 1 consisting of two AS9s and one AS10, made in South Korea) announced in February last year, these new vehicles represent high technology vehicle manufacturing coming back to the Geelong region.

Thanks to HDA’s supply chain of local and international partners, the vehicles will now go through further testing and training activities as the capability prepares to come into service. HDA is working with soldiers from the Australian Army in the H-ACE training wing, preparing operators and maintainers.

“Seeing the first Australian made AS9s come off the production line and drive their first laps around our test track is a milestone that we’re all very proud of,” HDA and UK/Europe CEO Mr Ben Hudson said. “This program will see a game changing capability introduced to the Australian Army underpinned by a strategic partner in Hanwha Defence Australia. With the K9 User Community now 11 nations strong, the AS9 variant pushes the boundaries of the platform.”

The Batch 1vehicles have been undertaking driver and maintainer training alongside further testing and verification including firing trials for the past 12 months, ensuring that operators are familiar with the vehicles. New vehicles are being added to this training program as they become available.

The AS9 and AS10 Huntsman have been developed to incorporate learnings and experience from the global fleet of over 2,400 K9s and K10s, the most popular SPH globally.

With the AS9 Huntsman, Hanwha has a proven 52-calibre 155mm gun system that is in service with multiple nations around the world, including the NATO alliance.

The AS10 Huntsman Armoured Ammunition Resupply Vehicle (AARV) is highly protected and manoeuvrable, with a unique loading system that reduces risk to soldiers from enemy fire while protecting the long-term health and fitness of soldiers operating the vehicle.

Manufactured with Australian supply chain partners like AME, Aurizn, Axalta, Bisalloy Steel, CBG Systems, Defcon, and DVR, Elphinstone, Eylex, HIFraser, Kongsberg Defence Australia, Maser, MMCLD, Redline Engineering, Rojone, Safran Electronics andDefence Australasia, Stahl Metal, TEi, Thales Australia, and Thomas Warburton working alongside the international supply chain base, Hanwha has made a significant ongoing investment in the Australian market.

“The technology transfer on the LAND 8116 program between South Korea and Australia has been a pilot program in many ways, demonstrating the deepening relationship between the two nations,” Mr Hudson said.

“This experience provides the foundation to succeed on our other Defence vehicle programs.

“Celebrating this milestone with our government, Defence, supply chain partners and our own exceptional team in our purpose-built facility is an honour,” Mr Hudson concluded.

The firstAustralian-made AS10 is scheduled to come off the H-ACE production line this year.

“We’re honored to continue our long-standing partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force to enhance and expand their training capabilities,” said Todd Morar, vice president of Air and Commercial Systems at Lockheed Martin. “As the original equipment manufacturer of the C‑130J, our knowledge of the aircraft and its operational flight program enable us to provide the most authentic, mission‑ready training tools available, preparing Australian aircrews to master the aircraft on day one.”

The new training devices feature cutting‑edge graphics, motion cueing and high‑fidelity cockpit replication that mirror the operational C‑130J. The devices are built for concurrency with the RAAF’s upcoming C‑130J‑30 acquisitions, enabling rapid fielding of new capabilities.

Lockheed Martin Australia’s Director of Global Training Systems, Peter Ashworth, said, “Our focus is preparing a mission-ready future force through the use of advanced technologies that reduce risk, cost and timelines, while improving capability to give Defence an operational edge.”

“Lockheed Martin Australia looks forward to supporting the Royal Australian Air Force with its C-130J training requirements to ensure RAAF personnel are equipped with the critical skills needed to achieve the mission.”

The RAAF has been a leader in C‑130 operations since 1958 and currently operates a fleet of 12 C‑130J‑30 Super Hercules aircraft. Under a 2022 Foreign Military Sale agreement, the United States approved the sale of up to 24 additional C‑130J‑30 airlifters. AFP Boosts Territorial Defense with Commissioning of New Navy Vessels

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) strengthened the nation’s maritime security posture through the concurrent christening and commissioning of the offshore patrol vessel BRP Rajah Sulayman (PS-20) and the fast attack interdiction craft BRP Audrey Bañares (PG-910), held at the Naval Operating Base in Subic, Zambales on February 24.

The ceremony was led by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr, marking another milestone in the military’s ongoing modernization program to secure its vast archipelagic waters, coastlines, and economic zones. He was joined by Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Ezpeleta PN, Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy, along with senior military officers, and distinguished guests.

BRP Rajah Sulayman (PS-20) was named after the pre-Hispanic ruler who led Tagalog forces during the 1570 Battle of Manila. The vessel embodies courage, leadership, and the enduring spirit of Filipino resistance.

Meanwhile, BRP Audrey Bañares (PG-910) honors Jose Audrey Bañares, a Navy commando who was killed off Zamboanga City in September 2013 following a sea battle with Moro National Liberation Front extremists. It symbolizes the bravery and dedication of Filipino sailors who defend the nation’s sovereignty.

By integrating these vessels into the active fleet, the AFP not only recognizes the legacy of its defenders but also ensures a more formidable presence in both littoral and deep-sea operations.

In his keynote address, General Brawner underscored that the AFP’s modernization efforts are anchored on responsibility and peace.

“Let me be clear: modernization is not a signal of aggression. It is a statement of responsibility. A credible defense posture deters conflict. Preparedness prevents miscalculation. Capability preserves peace,” General Brawner stated.

The XTC-03 8x8 armored vehicle, researched and developed by Vietnam, is attracting attention with the revelation of improvements that promise to surpass the Russian BTR-80.

One of the biggest differences lies in the hull design: the XTC-03 has its engine positioned at the front, freeing up space at the rear to accommodate a rear door for quick and safe infantry entry and exit – a crucial tactical upgrade that the BTR-80, with its side door, lacks.

In terms of firepower, the vehicle impresses with its stable 30mm 2A42 automatic cannon, coupled with a modern fire control system. Observers expect the final version to integrate a remote weapon system (RCWS) for commanders, enhancing its combat capabilities in all terrains.

Although not yet fully formed, the XTC-03 promises to be a breakthrough for Vietnam's defense industry.

AUKUS Enters New Era with the Arrival of UK Submarine into Western Australia

23 Februari 2026

HMS Anson S-123 an Astute class nuclear-powered attack submarine arrived at HMAS Stirling (photos: Aus DoD)

HMS Anson has arrived at Western Australia’s HMAS Stirling for the first‑ever maintenance activity on a United Kingdom nuclear‑powered submarine in Australia, marking a historic step in our nation’s readiness to operate and maintain conventionally‑armed, nuclear‑powered submarines.

Over the coming weeks, Australian personnel will work alongside partners from the United Kingdom (UK) and United States (US) on maintenance and familiarisation activities on the Astute-class submarine.

Around 100 personnel will contribute to the UK Submarine Maintenance Period (UK SMP) including members of the Royal Navy, the UK Submarine Delivery Agency, Royal Australian Navy, ASC Pty Ltd, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

This builds on previous work completed on US Virginia-class submarines USS Vermont in 2025 and USS Hawaii in 2024, and strengthens the skills, systems and supply chains required for routine maintenance of nuclear‑powered submarines.

Participation in the UK SMP represents another significant milestone in the lead up to the establishment of Submarine Rotational Force–West at HMAS Stirling from 2027 and will further build Australia’s familiarity with UK-designed submarines as the nation prepares to begin construction of SSN-AUKUS in Adelaide by the end of the decade.

Two Royal Australian Navy officers have been embedded aboard HMS Anson, gaining invaluable operational experience on a conventionally-armed, nuclear‑powered submarine.

More than 50 Australians are now embedded within the UK Defence Nuclear Enterprise, and the Royal Navy has provided offshore nuclear safety training to over 950 Australian Submarine Agency personnel.

The presence of HMS Anson also provides another opportunity to test and strengthen Australia’s nuclear stewardship systems, drawing on the world-leading safety practices of AUKUS partners.

During the HMS Anson visit, AUKUS partners will also undertake a combined AUKUS Pillar I and Pillar II activity, testing the interoperability of the Australian Speartooth large uncrewed underwater vehicle (LUUV) with the UK SSN, and assessing and enhancing AUKUS Pillar II anti-submarine warfare AI algorithms fitted to the RAAF P-8A Poseidon.

Quotes attributable to Deputy Prime Minister, Richard Marles:
“Australia’s acquisition of a nuclear-powered submarine capability will create jobs, strengthen our local industry and help keep Australians safe.

“This Submarine Maintenance Period is the latest demonstration of the continued momentum across all three partners to deliver AUKUS.

“Australia, the UK and the US will work together over the coming weeks on the maintenance of HMS Anson – developing our skills, systems and infrastructure as we prepare for Submarine Rotational Force–West to begin next year.”

Quotes attributable to Minister for Defence Industry, Pat Conroy:
“This is an important milestone that will build confidence in our strategic partners that we have the workforce able to deliver AUKUS submarines, and also lays ground for more jobs for locals.

“Alongside our AUKUS teammates, our workforce and industry partners are moving with purpose to accelerate Australia’s future nuclear-powered submarine capability.

“AUKUS partners are working together to achieve real operational benefits today, faster than we can working alone.”

MANILA – The Philippine Army (PA) is looking to develop an air defense capability that would allow the service to support the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC) now being operationalized by the country's military forces.

"We have proposed air defense capabilities. This is not only for force protection but also to project our force within the 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ)," Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

This is in response to the PNA's queries on whether the service is planning to acquire weapons and platforms designed to neutralize threats coming from the air.

The CADC is a strategic shift where the Armed Forces of the Philippines is tasked to defend all Philippine territories, including its 200-nautical mile EEZ.

Having a potent anti-air capability, Dema-ala said, will allow the PA to undertake missions "as part or in support of CADC."

Earlier, Dema-ala said the PA is also considering developing more potent drone capabilities.

"Part of our future plan is to develop the PA's drone capability, doctrine and training," he said.

Dema-ala said the drone capability will be used for "recon and combat."

Recon refers to reconnaissance or surveillance, while combat refers to drones with the capability to attack military targets.

While the Army already has an existing drone capability, this is only good for a "limited recon capability," Dema-ala said.

Military use of drones were highlighted following the continued use of the platforms in the ongoing Russian-Ukraine War by the two opposing sides in varying effects.
