Finally, after several delays on the delivery, this week the Philippine Navy has finally received its shipment of Spike-ER short range surface-to-surface missiles, Typhoon MLS-ER missile launchers, and Mini Typhoon 12.7mm Remote Control Weapon Systems from Israeli defense company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
This would be an important milestone for the Philippine Navy as it marks its entrance to the missile age, with the Spike-ER being its first surface-to-surface missile system.

This would be an important milestone for the Philippine Navy as it marks its entrance to the missile age, with the Spike-ER being its first surface-to-surface missile system.
The missiles, launchers and RCWS will all be equipped on the Multi-Purpose Attack Craft (MPAC) Mk.III, 3 units of which were activated last May 2017 and assigned with the Littoral Combat Force.
Each MPAC will get a Mini Typhoon armed with a Browning M2 50-caliber machine gun, and a Typhoon MLS-ER launcher. Each missile launching system can carry 4 ready-to-fire Spike-ER missile launchers and missiles, although the MPAC could carry more rounds due to availability of an ammunition storage.

It would be remembered that the Philippine Navy had delivery issues with these products from Rafael, despite the contract making Rafael responsible for delivery from Israel to the Philippines.
The Philippine Navy even asked General Headquarters AFP for approval of their request to use C-130 heavy tactical transport aircraft from the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to pick-up the missiles and launchers from Israel, although these requests were denied several times due to the limited availability of the PAF C-130s in line with events in the country that require their lifting capability.
Due to these availability issues, the PN and Rafael decided to push through with the delivery through commercial shipping.

Menhan Ryamizard Nyatakan Pemerintah Fokus Pembuatan Kapal Selam Sendiri
26 April 2018

PTDI Offered Convertion of 3 RMAF's CN-235 into MPA
26 April 2018

MPA and Upgrades
KUALA LUMPUR: No contracts for the upgrades of the Nuri, Hawks and Hercules were signed at the recently concluded DSA 2018 although it was promised ahead of the show. However Indonesian Aerospace the manufacturer of RMAF CN-235s was awarded a three year MRO contract by the government.
What’s interesting is that the MRO contract provided for the conversion of three out of the six CN-235 transporters in service into MPAs. The seventh CN-235 is configured for VIP transport. The eight aircraft was written off after it ditched near Kuala Selangor in Dec. 2016.
However the conversion program will depend on the availibility of funds and the government has yet to indicate when money will be allocated. Indonesian Aerospace says that it will fit the Thales AMASCOS system on the CN-235s. No word however whether this will be brand new ones or the ones fitted on the King Airs.
Indonesian Aerospace has marketed new built CN-235 MPAs to Malaysia for some time now. The conversion program might well be the second prize.

The U.S. and Royal Thai Navy will conduct subject matter expert exchanges in every aspect of anti-submarine warfare focusing on tracking submarines in a variety of conditions and concludes with evolutions designed to incorporate learned techniques shared throughout Guardian Sea.
"The Royal Thai Navy and U.S. Navy continue to demonstrate a strong relationship in every aspect of maritime operations," said Capt Anupong Taprasob, Royal Thai Navy. "We are fully committed to further strengthening this partnership well into the future with even greater and more complex naval tactic as well as maritime security exercises each year."
The U.S. Navy and the Royal Thai Navy conduct numerous annually-held engagements including the bilateral and multilateral Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) which began in 1995, Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT), and Cobra Gold, the Asia-Pacific’s largest multinational exercise.
"The P-8 Poseidon brings an unmatched maritime surveillance capability to a wide-spectrum of operations including anti-submarine warfare," said Cmdr Bryan Hager, commanding officer of Patrol Squadron (VP) 4. "We will be working side-by-side with our Royal Thai Navy counterparts through each mission and look forward to gaining and sharing knowledge."
