BRP Jose Rizal Undergoes Maintenance, Repair in S. Korea

MANILA – BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150), the country's first guided missile frigate has arrived at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea last June 15 for its first dry-docking and other related repairs since the commissioning of the ship in July 2020.

"BRP Jose Rizal will undergo maintenance, repair and overhauling services to be rendered by HHI. The said services include repair or replacement of worn-out machinery parts while fulfilling all warranty claims of the ship," the ship said in its Facebook post over the weekend.

The BRP Jose Rizal was warmly welcomed by the crew of the guided missile destroyer, ROKS Jeongjo the Great (DDG-995), who are also at HHI shipyard.

It was not mentioned how long the BRP Jose Rizal will be staying at Ulsan or what maintenance procedures or upgrades the frigate will be undergoing for security reasons.

The BRP Jose Rizal is one of the Philippine Navy's most versatile ships in securing and protecting the country's vast maritime domains.

The ship is capable of conducting anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and electronic warfare operations.

The BRP Jose Rizal was launched at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea on May 23, 2019.

Its sister ship, the BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151), was launched in the same facility on Nov. 8 of the same year.

The BRP Jose Rizal was commissioned on July 10, 2020.

The contract for the two ships was PHP16 billion, along with PHP2 billion for weapon systems and munitions.
