Dalam rangka memperkuat pertahanan dan keamanan maritim, Kemhan dan Fincantieri S.p.A telah resmi menandatangani kontrak pengadaan dua unit kapal fregat sejenis FREMM (Frigate European Multi-Mission), belum lama ini.
Berdasarkan kontrak yang telah disepakati, dua kapal perang yang tengah dibangun di galangan kapal di Trieste, Italia, pengiriman unit pertama dilakukan pada bulan Oktober 2024, sedangkan kapal kedua dijadwalkan pada April 2025. Kedua kapal perang jenis Pattugliatore Polivalente d'Altura (PPA) tersebut memiliki kemampuan multi-misi dan dilengkapi dengan teknologi terkini.
Selain itu, kapal perang PPA memiliki spesifikasi panjang 143 meter dan lebar kapal sekitar 16.5 meter, Displacement 6.250 Ton (Full Load) Kecepatan max ≥ 30 Knots, Endurance 5000 NM, serta dipersenjatai dengan sistem rudal permukaan ke udara (Surface to Air Missile /SAM) Aster 15 beserta peluncur vertical DCNS Sylver A43.
Sistem rudal SAM Aster 15 ini dapat dipasang pada berbagai jenis kapal perang, seperti fregat, destroyer, atau kapal induk. Selain itu, kapal juga dipersenjatai dengan meriam 127mm Vulcano, meriam 76mm Strales, meriam ringan 25mm dengan Fire-Control Radar (FCR) RTN 10X system Dardo, Peperangan Elektronika RECM, RESM dan CESM, Tactical Data Link-Y serta Multifunction Radar Leonardo Kronos.
Pengadaan kapal ini juga diiringi dengan paket offset yang komprehensif, di antaranya mencakup konsultasi pengembangan galangan kapal, strategi bisnis jangka panjang, peningkatan fisik galangan kapal, pelatihan kelas di Italia selama enam bulan, termasuk pengembangan jalur pelatihan di Universitas Pertahanan RI.

Kapal tersebut memiliki panjang mencapai 143 meter dan lebar kapal sekitar 16.5 meter, Displacement 6.250 Ton (Full Load) Kecepatan max ≥ 30 Knots, Endurance 5000 NM serta dipersenjatai dengan sistem rudal permukaan ke udara (Surface to Air Missile /SAM) Aster 15 beserta peluncur vertical DCNS Sylver A43. Sistem rudal SAM Aster 15 ini dapat dipasang pada berbagai jenis kapal perang, seperti fregat, destroyer, atau kapal induk.
Selain itu, kapal ini juga dipersenjatai dengan meriam 127mm Vulcano, meriam 76mm Strales, meriam ringan 25mm yang dilengkapi dengan Fire-Control Radar (FCR) RTN 10X system Dardo, Peperangan Elektronika RECM, RESM dan CESM, Tactical Data Link-Y serta Multifunction Radar Leonardo Kronos.
