Laman Shipspotting pada tanggal 6-7 April lalu oleh Eckhard Uhrbrock dilakukaan posting pembangunan kapal selam keempat pesanan pemerintah Singapura di galangan kapal di kota Kiel, Jerman bagian utara milik ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). Tampak lambung kapal selam (hull) yang dibangun telah hampir selesai.
Pemerintah Singapura telah memesan empat kapal selam diesel kepada galangan kapal TKMS di Jerman dalam dua gelombang, dua pertama pada tahun 2013 disusul dua sisanya pada tahun 2017. Kapal selam Type 218SG ini mempunyai bobot 2.000 ton dengan panjang 70m dan bobot maksimal ketika menyelam 2.200 ton.
Kapal selam keempat ini dinamakan RSS Inimitable menyusul kapal selam pertama RSS Invincible, kapal selam kedua RSS Impeccable dan kapal selam ketiga RSS Illustrious.
