MANILA, Filipina — Angkatan Udara Filipina (PAF) akan mengerahkan pesawat tempur untuk pertama kalinya berpartisipasi dalam latihan tempur udara multilateral skala besar Australia tahun ini.
Juru bicara PAF Kolonel Maria Consuelo Castillo pada hari Selasa mengatakan bahwa Filipina akan mengirimkan pesawat tempur ringan FA-50 untuk Latihan Pitch Black Australia pada bulan Agustus.
“Kami bersiap untuk penerapan [latihan] Pitch Black pada bulan Agustus,” kata Castillo kepada wartawan dalam sebuah wawancara telepon.
“Filipina akan memiliki keterlibatan pesawat karena kami akan mengerahkan pesawat tempur, itulah rencana kami untuk [Latihan] Pitch Black,” tambahnya.
Castillo juga memastikan pengerahan FA-50 akan dilakukan untuk pertama kalinya. “Ini pertama kalinya kami berpartisipasi dengan pesawat terbang tahun ini,” katanya kepada INQUIRER.net melalui pesan teks.
Hingga saat ini, PAF memiliki 12 FA-50, yang diperoleh dari Korea Aerospace Industries seharga P18,9 miliar pada masa pemerintahan Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino Jr.
Castillo juga menekankan bahwa latihan bilateral yang sedang berlangsung antara PAF dan mitranya di Amerika Serikat juga akan berfungsi sebagai persiapan bagi para penerbang dalam penempatan mereka dalam Latihan Pitch Black.
Tahun lalu, Manila mengerahkan personel sebagai pengamat dalam latihan dua tahunan di Canberra.
Leg pertama Pitch Black tahun ini akan diadakan mulai 15 Juli hingga 1 Agustus, menurut Royal Australian Air Force.
Filipina dan Australia sudah memiliki status perjanjian pasukan kunjungan, yang merupakan kerangka hukum komprehensif untuk kehadiran angkatan bersenjata suatu negara di negara lain.
Australia adalah pengamat tetap dalam latihan militer Filipina seperti latihan Balikatan.
