The 525th Combat Engineer “Forerunner” Battalion of Combat Engineer Regiment, Philippine Army led by its Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Michael Rey L. Bautista warmly welcomed the visit of Col. Joel N. Sobrera, the Deputy Commander of Combat Engineer Regiment and the Chief of the Office of Ethical Standards and Public Accountability.
The troops also warmly received and shared moments with Col. Sobrera and his team reminiscing his time being the former Commanding Officer of the unit.

HapusYa, memang kesilapan pada terma Malay Race yang dibawa oleh ahli antropologi Jerman bernama bernama Johann Friedrich Blumenbach yang memukul rata seluruh kaum Austronesia sebagai Melayu. Tapi bukan bermaksud sebelum penjajahan Eropah, tidak wujud nama Melayu, atau Melayu itu ciptaan penjajah.

Meleui-Kolon ni kalau diterjemahkan bermaksud Territory Of Melayu.
Kemudian, kita dapat melihat dalam sejarah rekod-rekod yang menyebut nama Melayu dalam sejarah. Dinasti-Dinasti China menyebut perkataan seperti Mo-lo-yu. Bok-la-yu, Ma-li-yu-er, Oo-lai-yu dan Wu-lai-yu merujuk kepada kerajaan-kerajaan yang terletak di wilayah Selatan.
Kita juga ada Batu Bersurat Padang Roco yang di dalamnya terdapat bukti kewujudan nama Melayu merujuk kepada sebuah kerajaan Dharmasraya yang berdiri di Sumatera:
"Semoga hadiah itu membuat gembira segenap rakyat di bhΕ«mi mΔlayu, termasuk brΔhmaΕa, ksatrya, waiΕa, sΕ«dra dan terutama pusat segenap para Δryya..."
Kemudian, dalam Hikayat Hang Tuah, nama Melayu mula bertukar merujuk kepada sebuah etnik, orang atau kelompok. Manuskrip yang mula ditulis pada tahun 1700 ini ada dicatatkan:
i. Antaranya ketika peristiwa Hang Tuah vs Samurai Jepun.
“Maka titah Phra Chau, `Hai pendekar, engkau aku titahkan bermain pedang dengan utusan Melayu ini.` Maka kata Jepun itu, `Berapa puloh orang Melayu itu? Jika sa-orang dua bukan lawan patek.”
ii. Hang Tuah vs Pendekar India
Hai pendekar, engkau hendak ku-surohkan bertuju dengan Laksamana Hulubalang Melayu.` Maka sembah pendekar itu, `Daulat tuanku, berapa puloh hulubalang Melayu itu akan bertuju dengan patek?
Nama Melayu juga dapat dilihat dalam catatan zaman kolonial Portugis apabila kita dapat melihat istilah "chiara Malaiu" yang diungkapkan oleh Antonio Pigafetta pada abad ke-16, yang merujuk kepada bahasa yang dipertuturkan oleh orang Melaka.
Dalam sebuah peta yang disiapkan pada tahun 1596 oleh Joannes van Doetecum (lihat di ruangan komen), kita dapat melihat bagaimana ada kategori orang Melayu dan Jawa, di mana orang Melayu diletakkan dengan penerangan seperti:
"Penduduk Melaka, penutur yang terbaik, yang paling sopan dan yang paling penuh cinta di Asia Tenggara.."
Semua fakta yang saya letakkan di atas mengatasi istilah Malay Race yang diperkenalkan oleh Blumenbach. Lagipun, bukan Blumenbach sahaja yang sebut pasal bangsa Melayu. Kita ada rekod-rekod sejarah yang bercerita seperti dibawah:
"Malaisia (Fr. Malaisie), or the Malay Archipelago ... derives its name from the circumstances that the inhabitants, for the most part, belong to the great Malay Race" (Thomas Baldwin, A Universal Pronouncing Gazetteer, 1854, halaman 354)
"All ethnic regions should be named from the tribes that inhabit them ... Thus by Malayu-Land I understand all districts, whether geographically united or not, that are possessed by communities of Malayu, and by Malays and Malayus I understand men of the Malayu race and language" (The Journal of the Indian Archipelago and Eastern Asia, Vol. 4, 1850, halaman 277)
Bukan semata-mata istilah Malay Race datang daripada Bluemenbach, tetapi orang Putih memang kenal wilayah Kepulauan Melayu dengan nama bangsa Melayu kerana dominasi Tamadun Melayu, kerana dominasi Budaya dan Bahasa Melayu yang dipertuturkan.
Aneh, tuduhan bahawa nama Melayu itu sebagai ciptaan British, betapa sebelum British, seolah-olah penutur bahasa yang menjadi lingua franca di Asia Tenggara, pembina empayar seperti Srivijaya dan Melaka langsung tak ada nama merujuk kepada bangsa mereka sendiri? Bina tamadun agung, bahasa hebat, tetapi nama bangsa sendiri kena British yang ajarkan?

Hihihi MALON memang LAWAK. Nama Malaysia awalnya tidak merujuk ke semenanjung, sama dengan istilah Melayu juga tidak menunjuk semenanjung. Malaysia menunjuk kepulauan Melayu, yaitu wilayah indonesia dan philipina sekarang. Melayu pun jelas menunjuk kerajaan di Sumatera bukan semenanjung.
