Research Institute for International Peace Stockholm - SIPRI report its latest mentions of Korea donated to People's Navy Vietnam 1 ship antisubmarine corvettes of Pohang used, be aware that the main The Gimcheon (PCC-761).

The image of the Pohang class ship guard after your handover to Vietnam is numbered 18, has appeared on the Sputnik Vietnamese page since mid-2017. However, it was not until March, A short video about this ship.

Reported by the National Defense Channel, currently ship number 18 are located in the factory building of the X46 Factory - Naval Technical Department. In the first quarter of 2018, the mission of the unit was to repair and upgrade the large submarine warfare tanker to hand it over to the 2nd Naval Region.

At the end of quarter I / 2018, the progress of repairing, upgrading the ship is something that many people are interested.

As for answering the question, the recent column on the National Channel of the National Defense Broadcasting Station has broadcast a recent report, including an image of the 18th ship anchored on the 171th Brigade. to serve the training, showing the overhaul, overhauling was completed.

In the video we can observe very clearly the configuration of the ship's weapon, it retains a Oto Melara Compact at the nose and a 40 mm Nobong Gun (DARDO Korean version manufactured under license) behind.

The location of the Nobong 40 in front of the command cabin was replaced with a 20 mm Sea Vulcan artillery shifter, which was a common weapon for the Korean Navy's Chamsuri class patrol boats. .

There are no longer torpedo-like trenches of the original size of 324 mm. They have been removed before handing over and no news has been found in Vietnam.

It is likely that the Pohang was only used as a patrol boat, but did not exclude that we would be equipped with an anti-submarine torpedo for the ship at the appropriate time.

Australian Technologies to be Tested on US Helicopter

Innovative Australian technologies to be tested on US Helicopter

Defence scientists will use a retired US Navy Seahawk helicopter to develop fatigue testing technologies, which could transform how military helicopters are managed with the potential to reduce maintenance costs and improve aircraft availability.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said the new technologies could have significant benefits for both military and civilian helicopter operators.

“In a world first, Defence scientists and engineers are developing a full-scale, structural fatigue test rig that can accurately replicate the loads and forces experienced by a helicopter in flight,” Minster Pyne said.

“While full-scale fatigue tests are routinely conducted for fixed-wing aircraft, the complex, high-frequency flight loading of helicopters has been particularly challenging to replicate in the laboratory.

“Instead, helicopters are certified using conservative test methods that do not always fully predict the possibility of fleet damage.”

Minister Pyne said Defence was investing $5 million over the next five years in this project and working in collaboration with industry and the US Navy.

“This very promising technology could not have happened without close collaboration between our Defence scientists and local industry,” he said.

“I thank the Australian companies for their involvement in the project, including Nova Systems, Jack Thompson Engineering, Fortburn and Advanced VTOL.

“The trial program, including the building of the innovative test rig and test demonstration, commenced late last year and will continue until 2022.

“The program aims not only to develop the capability to fully test and validate helicopter structures, but also to deliver innovations that may be applied to other areas such as the fatigue testing of fixed-wing aircraft.

“If successful, the technology could represent a considerable commercial opportunity for defence industry in Australia.”

The US Navy has supplied one of their aircraft for the research, and has expressed an interest in implementing full-scale fatigue testing of their entire fleet of Romeo Seahawk helicopters.

Plans are being developed by the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) for the upgrade of seven Royal Thai Navy (RTN) Dornier 228 maritime surveillance aircraft under the US government-funded Building Partner Capacity programme.

Used for maritime patrol and exclusive economic zone surveillance, the Do 228 aircraft are currently configured with a Telephonics RDR 1550B radar and a FLIR Systems Star SAFIRE II electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) turret. According to a request for information (RFI) issued by NAVAIR on 23 April, the planned upgrade will include the introduction of new sensors and mission systems.

Specific components listed in the RFI include a multimode radar with a minimum detection range of 160 n mile (296 km); an EO/IR five-axis stabilised multipayload system; a communications package including beyond line of sight (X-band) and datalink; avionics systems including navigation, automatic direction finding, instrument landing system, flight management system, traffic alert and collision avoidance system, and ADS-B transponder; a mission operator station and operating software; AIS; electronic support measures; and a mission data recorder.
