Damen has been contracted by Indonesia to procure a range of 'fitted for but not with' systems. Specific equipments include MBDA's VL Mica point defence missile system and its MM 40 Block 3 Exocet anti-ship missile system, and the Rheinmetall Millennium 35 mm cannon (photo : Thales)
Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) is in negotiations with several suppliers for the procurement of a package of weapons and equipments for backfitting to two SIGMA 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) frigates being delivered to the Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut, or TNI-AL).
The Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and DSNS as prime contractor, signed a contract in December 2012 for the first PKR. An option for the second vessel was exercised in mid-2013. Modular construction of the ships has been shared between the Vlissingen, Netherlands, facility of DSNS and the PT PAL shipyard in Surabaya, with final assembly, integration, and testing performed in Indonesia.

Lead ship KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata completed sea acceptance trials in September 2016 and is planned for delivery at the end of January 2017, following completion of crew training. Work continues at Surabaya on the completion of the second vessel, to be named Gusti Ngurah Rai. Delivery is scheduled for October 2017.
While the PKR vessels are being delivered with a core mission system supplied by Thales Nederland - including the TACTICOS combat management system, SMART-S Mk 2 surveillance radar, STIR 1.2 EO Mk 2 radar/electro-optical tracking system, and Kingklip hull-mounted sonar - the only weapon system included in the original contract was a single Leonardo (Oto Melara) 76/62 Super Rapid gun. However, space, weight, and service provisions were included in the SIGMA 10514 design to enable the retrofit of additional 'fitted for but not with' (FFBNW) weapon systems, including a point-defence missile system, a surface-to-surface missile system, and a close-in weapon system.

Hapushope everything goes well with indonesian navy. how much will this weapons procurement cost? i was told that the 220 million usd you paid for one ship is just for the hull only.
BalasHapus220m dollar is normal price for a modern frigate. unlike philippine's future cheap light frigate that cost approx 170m dollar per ship. on the other hand malaysia's sgpv is extremely expensive 470m dollar per ship. does it include all the missiles?
BalasHapusI think Malaysia's SGPV's price is for the whole package/system incl. missiles. While the Sigma's 220 mil is for hull + gun + electronics.
Hapusyes the 470m per ship included all the system, missile, gun and hull. french ship is famous for being more expensive than most of it europe counterpart. the egyptian gowind 2500 cost 360m per ship and that is without any customization like the sgpv. but with the price tag on sgpv, i actually hope that it will be equip with essm but what to do the politician will make the final decision.
Hapus@luqman but hey people always say: "quality comes with a price". I'm sure for 470m the ship won't be a pushover. You guys should be proud!
Hapus@luqman: what's the progress of the gowind? the production were being overlap by the egypt gowind? can you share the problem being dealt in malaysian gowind project.
Hapusthe progress is moving at a steady pace. the second sgpv keel laying will be on november this year while the first will finish late next year. there are no problem actually aside from not having military grade steel cutting facility(they do have civilian grade one). the egyptian gowind is being built by dcns so it is to be expected that the ship will finish first as dcns is a hot yard(complete with every facility needed for shipbuilding and all the system inside the ship).
Hapusif im not mistaken, one of the reason the price went up is because boustead also bought the setis cms, bofors 57mm and some other system ip right. the 57mm will be built in malaysia(start from the second one as the first one will be from europe). the same goes for the setis cms and some other system. bns already own the tacticos cms thanks to the ngpv program(at least there is one good thing about this program). that's why the navy tried to push for tacticos but oh well gov decided on setis and same goes for radar as the navy want the herakles but get smart-s mk2 instead.
