Sending it Blasting through your feed, an FGM-148 Javelin is fired by 2nd/1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment during Exercise Kleidi Pass.

The Javelin is an anti-tank missile with a 127mm calibre, and a max effective range of 2500m. Helicopters, tanks or bunkers? No problem for this piece of kit.

The Javelin MRAAW is a highly effective anti-armour ‘fire and forget’ missile system for infantry. This shoulder-fired precision missile is designed to destroy tanks and other armoured vehicles, as well as hovering helicopters.

Known as a ‘fire-and-forget’ weapon, the Javelin is autonomously guided to the target after launch, leaving the firer free to immediately take cover or reload. The weapon system can be fired by one person, but is usually a two-person team effort with one carrying the launcher and the other carrying the missile.

This weapon can be fired in two modes; top attack or direct trajectory, and can be operated in both the man-portable and vehicle mounted roles. The Javelin is operated by soldiers from our Army’s Fire Support Group within each infantry battalion.
