PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte vowed Friday to acquire more brand new military equipment, including 12 more fighter jets.

Duterte told the soldiers from the 102nd Infantry Brigade in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, that his administration would not accept second hand equipment.

"Kung buhayin pa ako ng Panginoon Diyos, you will have about 24 jet planes. Mag-acquire pa ako ng 12. Subukan ko. You have the best equipment, ‘yung --- ang sources natin sa baril ninyo is just two nations. I will not mention the names," he said.

"During my time, wala na akong second-hand mga barko, barko. It has to be brand new. Hindi na ako tatanggap ng mga equipment ng military na second-hand. Iyong ibinibigay ng Amerikano, ayaw ko na ‘yan. Even I have to spend double the money," the President added.

Duterte also expressed confidence that the government would win on its fight against the Islamic State-inspired Maute Group in Marawi City.

"Dito naman sa extremism, mananalo tayo. But we will have losses, ganon lang talaga ang buhay. That is how life is governed in this universe. You would never know when," he said.

He said it has been taking long for the government forces to finally defeat the terrorists because of the civilians who could be affected.

"But no we are a government and we are bound by rules and even treaties, ‘yung mga Geneva Convention. That’s their favorite sanctuary. They also refer the Geneva Convention ‘pag pabor nila. ‘Pag nadehado sila, wala silang ingay sa Geneva Convention. And that is always the problem because the government can never ignore treaties and the laws of the land," he said.

"Kung terorista lang din tayo, madali na natapos ‘yan. Bombahan mo lang lahat, tapos na isang araw. Eh marami na akong jet planes ngayon, sampu na ‘yan," Duterte added.

The military has been conducting offensive operations against the Maute members since May 23 when the militants attacked Marawi.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said earlier the military could completely clear Marawi of terrorists by June 2.

But in a news briefing on Friday, Brigadier General Restituto Padilla, military spokesman, said that it was not possible anymore.

"It was a deadline that was set forth and provided by the Secretary of National Defense so we can aim for it. But the final decision actually rests on the ground commander. And based on the report that we’re getting I don’t think we can meet that deadline today to completely --- I’d like to qualify that --- to completely free Marawi of every single armed element in every street," he said.

But he added that the government forces were working and doing their best to immediately complete the mission.

    1. Yup, Gripen is a good one..

    2. although I agree that gripen is the best for ph but the news about ph want russian pgm will complicate things. although sweden is a neutral nation, many of the system inside the gripen is from usa so there will be little to no chance of integrating russian pgm with it. if they want russian pgm than better just buy russian plane as well. however, seeing the situation in the logistic side of afp, I think it's better if they stay away from russian plane since their after sale support is not as good as the other mrf supplier.

    1. it's not that he doesn't want to but the stupid bidding process and no compromise are the cause. the super tucano is the obvious winner since the the requirements listed in the bid is a total copy paste of super tucs brochure. on the no compromise issue, the air force want the super tucs to be delivered in two to three years but embraer said they can only finish delivery in five years since they have to finish the order from other customers.

    2. for fight land attack...the best choice is slow aircraft...like attack helicopter or coin aircraft.....supertucano good for land attack

  10. From my humble perspectives, PAF should consider attack helicopters or close air support aircraft. Mi-35 Hind, I think, it the best choice. Not only that it is a battle proven platform, but also can carry small number of troops. Furthermore, PAF should decide the best close air support, in which, the bidding has been in process for a while but no decision is made.

    2. Indonesia's arsenal was once dominated by weapons made in the U.S. Since the U.S. imposed arms embargo due to our internal issues, we had to look to other resources and Russia is the logical choice. Yes, we also face logistical issues but it is something that we need to overcome. Yes, PAF has around 21 units of UH-1D but they are becoming obsolete.

  12. PAF was once better equipt than many airforces in asean, during the late 70 and early 80s, imho, their problem is maintainabilty and sustainability of
their assets. Their S260 amd F5 was decomm was due to lack of maintenance and support.

    1. PAF will be glad to have IFX i'm sure. I believe its on their radar, they are probably waiting for its development. We are already used to South Korean and Indonesian military hardwares

      Hapus
    2. Hey idiot... south korea design 90% of IFX PROJECT. You guys???? Only bullshit about indonesia building a fighter jet bla blabla

      Hapus
    3. You say 90%? So we do contribute to the project with the 10% plus funding 25% of the total cost. So yeah we are building a fighter jet together with S. Korea and that's no bullshit. Well, unless you are an "alternative facts" beleiver that is.

We get around 80 jets in return and Korea gets 120. What fighter jet does your country build? Nothing. Nil. Fucking loud mouthed, 0 knowledge, rude idiot.

  17. Salute Ph.
Hope Duerte could buy this "new Fighter" soon,as the PAF need those toys at present.

    BalasHapus
  18. Again im stating, PAF needs to have better maintainability and sustanability, bcos no matter what new toys they get, it will be depelete soon. Look at TUDM they have managed well their mig 29 and F18.The TNI AU, they maintained well the F16 and Hawks,It would be prudent that they managed F50 first bfore they induct new airframe. With the intention of using Russian PGM, do they have the resources to intergrate them, train and subsequently use them effectively, point to note, not many Russian Sukhois used their PGM in Syria recently, as they lack the supporting pod.
