Vessels from 19 nations sailed into Sydney Harbour on March 21 for the Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review (KFR), commemorating 125 years since the foundation of Australia’s Navy.

Governor-General Sam Mostyn reviewed the vessels from on board Navy’s survey vessel, HMAS Leeuwin.

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Mark Hammond and a constellation of admirals, including participating nations’ chiefs of navy, accompanied Ms Mostyn.

The review was part of the wider Exercise Kakadu, the Royal Australian Navy’s premier multinational maritime engagement exercise, conducted biennially to strengthen maritime security cooperation, enhance interoperability and build partnerships across the Indo-Pacific.

Mr Marles highlighted the historic scale of the KFR.

“Last week marked the largest naval review in Sydney Harbour in more than a decade, with 18 partner nations joining Australia and an unprecedented range of vessels on display,” Mr Marles said.

“Partners from across the Indo Pacific were represented, including the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and India, along with South-East Asian nations such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

“For the first time, Exercise Kakadu included a Vietnamese ship, alongside the largest gathering of Guardian-class patrol vessels and a Japanese Mogami class vessel.”

Over the course of the day, 31 naval vessels entered Sydney Harbour for the review.

"This is an ideal place to commemorate all of that service, all of the servicemen and women who have stood the watch before us, and to pay a nod to those who will serve in the future fleet.”

Navy’s flagship HMAS Canberra led the main division at dawn and passed the hallowed mast of HMAS Sydney I at Bradley’s Head as personnel hoisted the Australian white ensign in a poignant ceremonial colours ceremony.

Vice Admiral Hammond spoke about the significance of the KFR and of celebrating in Sydney.

“This is the first time we’ve brought Kakadu participants here to Sydney Harbour,” Vice Admiral Hammond said.

“And the entry this morning was pretty spectacular.”

The final division of ships entered the Harbour mid-afternoon, led by HMAS Stuart, passing and saluting Leeuwin as multiple Navy and Air Force aerial displays flew overhead.

Then Leeuwin, ferrying the Governor-General and her constellation of admirals, reviewed the gathered ships, taking a salute and a cheer ship from each.

Vice Admiral Hammond also spoke to the 125th anniversary.

“One hundred and 25 years of naval service commenced in March of 1901 with the establishment of the Commonwealth Naval Force,” Vice Admiral Hammond said.

“In 1911, we were conferred with the title Royal Australian Navy from His Majesty the King, and then in 1913 we witnessed the arrival of the first fleet unit here in Sydney Harbour.

“So, this is an ideal place to commemorate all of that service, all of the servicemen and women who have stood the watch before us, and to pay a nod to those who will serve in the future fleet.”

Following the KFR, vessels remained alongside Garden Island Defence Precinct for several days.

Ship’s companies explored Sydney and surrounds and engaged in a multi-national sports day before the main Kakadu exercise commenced off the east coast of Australia.

“What the participants are particularly looking forward to is the opportunity to exercise everything from disaster relief and constabulary operations, right up to the higher end of warfighting skills that we need to practise with our allies and partners,” Vice Admiral Hammond said.

“The Fleet Review highlights the depth of our partnerships across the region, demonstrating the strength of the relationships and the importance of working together to ensure a secure maritime domain.

“For 125 years, Australia’s Navy has defended our nation, protected our maritime approaches, and supported regional stability, but we have never done it alone. Our partners and allies have played a critical role in our 125-year history.”

Reinforcing its commitment to supporting national institutions, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), together with its dealers Isuzu Makati and Isuzu Tagum, formally turned over 205 trucks to the Philippine Army during a ceremonial event at Camp General Servillano A. Aquino, Tarlac City.

The fleet is composed of 117 Isuzu NPS and 88 Isuzu FTS trucks, all configured with troop carrier bodies designed for the safe, efficient, and reliable transport of military personnel, equipment, and essential cargo across various operational requirements, including disaster response and recovery missions.

This latest turnover highlights IPC’s continued support for the Philippine Government’s fleet modernization efforts, providing transport solutions that are built for long-term use, ensuring reliability, durability, and operational efficiency for years to come.

With Philippine Army units deployed nationwide, these trucks are expected to significantly enhance mobility and readiness. Built on Isuzu’s proven reputation for durability and supported by a nationwide service network with readily available parts, the vehicles are designed to perform in demanding environments and sustain long-term operations in the field.

The turnover ceremony was led by Isuzu Philippines Corporation Executive Vice President Yasuhiko Oyama, together with Major General Florante Piol Sison, Commander for Support Command of the Philippine Army, and other key officials.

“Isuzu has long been a trusted partner of various industries and institutions in the country, supporting mobility and progress. Today, we are honored to extend this role in contributing to national defense by providing vehicles that will support the Philippine Army in fulfilling its mission to serve and protect the Filipino people,” said Oyama.

Isuzu Trucks: Built for Long-Term Service
As frontliners in national defense and disaster response, the Philippine Army requires transport solutions that deliver both durability and efficiency. The selected Isuzu trucks are engineered to meet these demanding requirements, ensuring dependable performance in diverse and challenging conditions.

Both the Isuzu NPS and FTS models are equipped with a 4x4 drivetrain, enabling troops to traverse rough, unpaved roads and mountainous terrain with greater confidence. This capability is particularly critical for operations in remote provincial areas, where accessibility can be limited and reliable transport is essential for mission success.

The Isuzu NPS trucks, part of the brand’s best-selling N-Series light-duty lineup, are powered by the 4HK1-TCN Blue Power Diesel Engine. These vehicles offer a balance of power and fuel efficiency, helping reduce operational costs while maintaining performance across varying terrains. Their compact design, combined with 4x4 capability, allows for improved maneuverability in both urban environments and hard-to-reach rural areas.

Complementing the fleet are the Isuzu FTS medium-duty trucks from the F-Series lineup, designed for heavier payloads and longer-haul operations. Equipped with the 6HK1-TCN engine delivering 240 PS and 706 Nm of torque, the FTS provides the strength, traction, and stability required to transport troops and equipment across long distances, steep inclines, and rugged off-road conditions.

All units are fitted with troop carrier bodies built by F. Cura Industries, a long-standing body builder known for delivering high-quality, durable body configurations. These bodies are designed to withstand demanding operational use, ensuring safety, reliability, and longevity in operations.

Both NPS and FTS models are EURO IV compliant, reflecting Isuzu’s commitment to supporting environmentally responsible operations while meeting the evolving requirements of government fleet modernization.

Backed by Isuzu’s nationwide dealer network, the Philippine Army can rely on comprehensive aftersales support and access to genuine spare parts, helping ensure maximum vehicle uptime and sustained operational readiness.

By continuously supporting key government institutions such as the Philippine Army, Isuzu Philippines Corporation reaffirms its role as a reliable partner in nation-building, delivering transport solutions that are not only built for performance, but designed as long-term investments for the country’s mobility and operational needs.

ANKA MALE UAV TUDM (photo: MMR)

Indonesia Kirim Tim Teknis Lanjutkan Proyek Jet Tempur KF-21

02 April 2026

Proyek KF-21 sendiri bukan kerja sama baru.

Sejak 2019, pembayaran kontribusi Indonesia sempat terhenti. Padahal, dalam kesepakatan awal, pemerintah melalui Kementerian Pertahanan diwajibkan menyetor sekitar 1,6 triliun won.

Perkembangan positif baru muncul pada Agustus 2024 ketika Defense Acquisition Program Administration menyetujui revisi kontribusi Indonesia. Nilai komitmen diturunkan menjadi sekitar 600 miliar won pada 2025, disertai penyesuaian skema transfer teknologi.

The Australian Army has recognised the establishment of its new Littoral Manoeuvre Group with a ceremonial parade at Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane.

The group will strengthen Army’s ability to move, deploy and support land forces across coastal and island regions, helping to deliver the aims of Australia’s National Defence Strategy.

Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, AO, DSC, said the group is part of building a future-ready force designed to operate effectively across the complex geography of the region.

“This capability strengthens our ability to hold adversaries at risk, control strategic land positions and deny access through Australia’s northern approaches,” he said.

Based in Brisbane, the Littoral Manoeuvre Group Headquarters and the 1st Landing Craft Battalion form the core of a team designed to operate across the Indo-Pacific, supporting Australia’s ability to respond to strategic challenges.

Army’s existing littoral units, 35th Water Transport Squadron and the Littoral Riverine Survey Squadron, have transitioned to the group. This move brings specialist skills together and streamlines command and control within the 17th Sustainment Brigade.

Two additional landing craft battalions will be located in the Northern Territory and north Queensland alongside Army’s combat brigades, strengthening presence across key strategic corridors.

Lieutenant General Stuart said Defence was accelerating the acquisition of medium and heavy landing craft, upgraded amphibious vessels and modern facilities to support the group.

“The group will operate these platforms with a new specialised workforce, giving Army the ability to rapidly deploy and sustain its modernised land force – from Abrams tanks and precision strike weapons to infantry fighting vehicles – across demanding terrain,“ he said.

Commander Littoral Manoeuvre Group, Colonel Rory Hale, said the transition of existing units and the development of the new workforce was progressing well.

“Our people are at the heart of this group. Through targeted training, new career pathways and close collaboration with Navy and TAFE, we are building a skilled workforce of confident littoral warfighters that will lead this capability into the future,” he said.

The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) held a ceremony to receive the new hydrographic operations ship HTMS Suriya (the 3rd) on 30 March 2026 (2026) at Fort Suea Son Lep, Royal Thai Naval Academy (RTNA), Pak Nam Subdistrict, Muang District, Samut Prakan Province. Admiral Pairoj Fuengchan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, presided over the ceremony.

The Royal Thai Navy signed a contract for the construction of a new hydrographic operations vessel to replace HTMS Suriya (the second vessel) for a sum of 885,000,000 baht ($24,552,298.35) with Asian Marine Service PCL (ASIMAR) of Thailand on September 22, 2023.

The new hydrographic research vessel had its keel laid on February 27, 2024 at ASIMAR Thailand shipyard in Laem Fa Pha Subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province, followed by its launching ceremony at ASIMAR Thailand shipyard on May 19, 2025.

This coincides with "Abhakorn Day," the anniversary of the death of Admiral Prince Abhakorn Kiativongse, Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak, "the Father of the Royal Thai Navy," and the 8th waning moon of the 6th lunar month, "Attami Bucha Day," the day commemorating the cremation of the Buddha's body (eight days after "Visakha Bucha Day") in the year 2025.

The Royal Thai Navy requested three names from His Majesty the King for the ship: "HTMS Suriya (the 3rd)", "HTMS Apakorn" (both meaning sun, like the word "Suriya"), and "HTMS Kaewkosin", after the planet Kaewkosin, which was recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 2023. The chosen name was "HTMS Suriya," continuing the lineage of the previous hull.

HTMS Suriya (3rd) will replace HTMS Suriya (2nd) which was built by Bangkok Dock Company, Thailand, ordered in 1976 for 52,517,000 baht at that time. The keel was laid on 10 August 1976 and it was commissioned on 15 January 1979, with a service life of about 46 years, which shows the continued promotion of the shipbuilding industry in Thailand by the Royal Thai Navy .

Myanmar Witness first saw a new armored personnel carrier (APC) unveiled by the Myanmar military at the Armed Forces Day Parade in Nay Pyi Taw on March 26, 2026. It is the Ukrainian-made 8-wheeled BTR-4U, and Myanmar signed an agreement with Ukraine in 2018 to assemble and manufacture the vehicles locally.

Although little is known about this process, current evidence suggests that at least three of the vehicles have been produced. They are based on the original BTR-4U design, rather than the latest upgraded versions.

The turret on these BTR-4Us is not the same as the original model produced by the Ukrainian company, but is smaller and simpler, and is likely to be operated by an unmanned vehicle.

Other differences from the original model include the body design, the installation of side mirrors, the absence of a searchlight, the position of the headlights, and the higher passenger compartment.

Current Conflict in the Middle East

During March 2026 EOS has continued discussions with several Middle Eastern governments and related representatives regarding the provisions of advanced counter-drone systems.

Those systems include the established cannon-based Slinger RWS product; our High-Energy Laser Weapon APOLLO product range; and other related products for infrastructure protection.

EOS views that the current military conflict may accelerate those opportunities albeit there is no guarantee that any additional orders will be secured.
