KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- A comprehensive audit on Royal Malaysian Air Force's (RMAF) assets will be carried out by a third party to ensure that all the assets are in the best condition.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the audit process would be done as soon as possible to prevent any untoward incidents.

"We will look at the asset maintenance record, continuous training of pilot, and that requires a lot of job," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here Thursday.

He said this in response to the RMAF Aermacchi MB-339CM jet crash in Kampung Serun near Nenasi, Pahang, last Tuesday, in which its two pilots sustained injuries.

Hishammuddin said initial investigation found that the incident was caused by technical glitch and that the jet's service would not be suspended as it only involved training aircraft.

The minister also refuted the allegation that the jet was carrying a bomb during the incident as alleged by certain quarters.

"I can confirm that there was no bomb, it was just a training. Those who came up with that story should have verified with us first," he said.

Meanwhile, Hishammuddin said the ministry had identified coastal areas in Sarawak to be developed into forward operating base, but the matter had yet to be finalised as it also involved the Indonesian province of Kalimantan.

"On our side, we are ready to move forward. We have identified the areas and it depends on the affordability, who is to going to come onboard, unity and bilateral diplomacy between the countries involved," he added.
