TSAMTO - Russia plans to create a service center for the Yak-130 in Malaysia in the event of its purchase, as well as to localize its production. On this, as the "RIA Novosti", said at the exhibition LIMA 2019 UAC President Yuri Slusar.
Currently, Russia and Malaysia are negotiating the possibility of selling the Yak-130.

“The plane is unique. Of course, Mr. Prime Minister (Malaysian Mahathir Mohamad - ed.) And I discussed the possibility of industrial cooperation in this matter. Here in Malaysia, the service center will be engaged in maintenance and repair. Maybe in the future we will consider some options for assembling the aircraft in Malaysia. In the future, there could be a regional center that would support the entire grouping of aircraft in the region of Southeast Asia, ”said Slyusar after meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who visited the UAC stand.

As noted by Y. Slyusar, the premiere was shown by the entire line of aircraft produced, but first and foremost by the Yak-130 training aircraft.

Irkut closes in on Yak-130 opportunities in Southeast Asia

Russian aerospace group Irkut has outlined additional export opportunities in Southeast Asia for its Yakovlev Yak-130 'Mitten' advanced jet trainer/light-attack aircraft.

Speaking at a media briefing at the LIMA 2019 exhibition in Langkawi on 27 March, Irkut officials confirmed that the aircraft is positioned to bid for Malaysia's requirement to procure a light combat aircraft (LCA) or a fighter lead-in trainer (FLIT). Officials also indicated a possible opportunity in Vietnam.

Irkut said it has recently responded to the Royal Malaysian Air Force's (RMAF's) request for information in support of the LCA/FLIT procurement, which officials said features 18 initial aircraft and 36 in total. Officials said Irkut is preparing a bid for the tender but did not elaborate.

Irkut also confirmed that regional exports of the Yak-130 include sales to Bangladesh, Laos, and Myanmar. Officials did not provide a breakdown of sales, only stating that each regional country had ordered "more than 10 aircraft each". Irkut said that in total it has sold more than 160 Yak-130s to six countries. Other operators include Algeria, Belarus, and Russia.

According to Jane's All the World's Aircraft , Myanmar has ordered 12 Yak-130 aircraft, all of which were scheduled for delivery by the end of 2018. Laos received an initial four Yak-130s in late 2018 after having ordered the aircraft one year earlier. The number of aircraft purchased by Laos has not been confirmed but the country has reportedly ordered 10 in a deal worth about USD300 million including spares, air-launched munitions, ground equipment, and training.

Bangladesh has confirmed its delivery of 16 Yak-130s, the last of which was handed over in 2016.

Irkut also identified Vietnam as another possible customer. "We are working with our friends in Vietnam, which is a long-term partner of Russia," said an Irkut official. (Jane's)

LANGKAWI /Malaysia/TASS/. Sanctions and political environment won’t affect the deliveries of Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets to Indonesia, Deputy Director of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Mikhail Petukhov told TASS on Tuesday.

Earlier reports said Russia and Indonesia had signed a contract on the supplies of 11 Su-35 fighter jets.

"The supplies of Russian armaments and the provision of maintenance services depend solely on contractual terms and are not affected by political environment and sanctions blackmail," Petukhov said at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2019) in Malaysia.

"Joint work on this project is underway. We don’t have any information on the sides’ statements on giving up the contract on the Su-35 supplies," he noted.

The official stressed that Russia’s partners are satisfied by "combat, technical and price parameters of Russian armaments."

Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi told TASS on Monday the deliveries of Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets to Indonesia could begin this year. (TASS)

Deliveries of Russian Su-35 fighter jets to Indonesia may begin in 2019

MAKHACHKALA/TASS/. The deliveries of Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets to Indonesia may begin in 2019, Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi told TASS on Monday.

"You know, this is a technical issue because the agreement has already been signed. The talk is about its implementation technically because the scheme itself is quite new for us," the ambassador said.

"As you know, this scheme envisages an exchange of some products for other products and I very much hope that it will be implemented in the near future. I hope that this may take place this year," the envoy said, responding to a question about when the deliveries of Su-35 fighters to Indonesia would begin.

When answering a question about the US position on this issue, the Indonesian diplomat said that Jakarta felt certain pressure from Washington.

"But the government has already made a decision for itself and this is an internal issue, an issue of national interests and the decision will naturally be made by us," the envoy said.

The ambassador also said that Russia and Indonesia were working on new projects in the sphere of military and technical cooperation but declined to give any details.

"Annually, a special commission for military and technical cooperation holds its session to discuss current issues," the ambassador said. (TASS)

NUSHIP Sydney capability upgrade to occur at Osbourne

A significant capability upgrade to the Hobart Class Destroyers will allow NUSHIP Sydney to enter into operation one year ahead of schedule.

Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, said Defence was able to streamline a technical upgrade to the third ship of the Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer during its build at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia and fast-track its operational schedule.

“Structural modifications to accommodate the MH-60R ‘Romeo’ helicopter into the Hobart Class were planned to be completed after operational acceptance trials, but an opportunity was identified to bring the aviation upgrade forward,” Minister Pyne said.

“The upgrade to the ship’s infrastructure to support the Romeo, the Royal Australian Navy's next generation maritime combat helicopter, will make it Australia’s most advanced warship.”

Minister for Defence Industry, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC, said carrying out the aviation upgrade during the ship’s build presents significant value for money.

“The opportunity for the AWD Alliance to complete the work while the ship is still in-build is testament to the skill and efficiency of the 400-strong shipbuilding workforce at Osborne,” Minister Reynolds said.

"It will deliver operational capability to the Royal Australian Navy 12 months ahead of schedule and is another way in which the Australian Government is strengthening Defence capability and assuring jobs for Australians."

NUSHIP Sydney is part of the largest regeneration of the Royal Australian Navy since the Second World War. It complements the $90 billion commitment in the 2016 Defence White Paper to further enhance Navy’s capabilities with the Arafura class offshore patrol vessels, the Hunter class frigates, and 12 regionally superior submarines, the Attack class, all to be built in Australia, by Australian workers.

A joint venture (JV) between Malaysian company UA Aerospace and the investment arm of the government of Kedah, Menteri Besar Kedah Incorporated (MBI Kedah), has secured a partnership with China’s biggest defence enterprise, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), it has been revealed to Jane’s .

Foong Peng Hoong, the president of UA Aerospace, said at the 2019 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) exhibition in Malaysia on 26 March that under the new partnership UA Aerospace and MBI Kedah will receive technologies and training from AVIC to facilitate the Malaysian production of two major Chinese platforms.

These comprise the Y-12 light transport aircraft, developed by AVIC subsidiary Harbin Aviation Group, and the AC312 light twin-engine civilian helicopter, developed by subsidiary AVICopter. The Y-12 and AC312 have been designed by AVIC for commercial and military applications.

Hoong said that under the new agreement – in which AVIC has been designated “technical partner” – the JV will produce the aircraft in a facility that UA Aerospace is planning to develop in Kedah, with funding support provided by MBI Kedah and technologies and training provided by AVIC. This new facility will be operational by about 2020, he said. UA Aerospace already manufactures aerospace components for the commercial sector.

With collaboration initially focused on the Y-12, the Malaysian-Chinese partnership will produce the aircraft for global customers, said Hoong. Work will initially be geared towards meeting requirements in commercial domains but, he said, could also incorporate the production of aircraft for coastguard and paramilitary operators in the future. The Y-12 could also meet requirements for maritime surveillance, he said.
