Vietnam Built a Closed Hangar for Helicopters on HQ-011

The latest image of a closed hangar containing a helicopter on the battleship 011 Dinh Tien Hoang suggests that the idea may come from the dome hangar on board CSB 8020.

The fleet of ships 011 Dinh Tien Hoang and 015 Tran Hung Dao of the Vietnamese Navy originated from Cam Ranh port army, after a week of voyage arrived at Qingdao port (Shandong province, China) on April 21.

The squad will attend the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese Navy and participate in multilateral naval activities with navies of other countries, at the invitation of the Chinese Navy.

According to the Navy newspaper , the trip is also aimed at training and improving the ability of organizing commanders, synergies, and skills to master new equipment for Vietnamese naval troops when operating on the sea for a long time. There were 16 ships from Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam attending the event.

Chinese media have posted photos of the Vietnamese Navy's Gepard 3.9 class battleships attending the celebration. It is noteworthy that the hangar (hangar) on the stern of 011 Dinh Tien Hoang has been improved very nicely. Instead of the original hangar, which was only a short structure, only the first part of the Ka-28 helicopter hunted submarine, now Dinh Tien Hoang ship is attached with an extension that can accommodate the whole helicopter.

The additional hangar has a trapezoidal shape, observing carefully, you can see the additional hangar consists of two interlocking sections, which can be pulled out and retrieved. This hanggar also features a rolling door.

This structure reminds us of the dome-shaped hangar installed on the CSB 8020 which was the Coast Guard Morgenthau (the Hamilton-class large coast guard) of the US Coast Guard type and aid to the Vietnam Coast Guard in 2017. The original Hamilton-class ship did not have a hangar, the helicopter just landed on the flight deck and was fixed by rope to the floor. By the 1990s, American Coast Guard equipped with dome-shaped maneuvered hangar. Hangar consists of 2 parts, which can be pull in and out to accommodate helicopters.

The battleship Gepard 3.9, built by the Gorky Shipyard in Zelenodolsk, CH Tatarstan (Russia) built for the Vietnamese Navy (4 in total), is an export version of Project 11661. Ship class Russia only built 2 of them, equipped with the Caspi Squadron, not equipped with helicopters. The Gepard 3.9-class battleship built for the Vietnamese Navy has a short hangar, which can only accommodate the first part of the Ka-28 helicopter, which is equipped with important electronics including sensors, sonar and radar, submarine detection.

Because the hangar is too short to contain all the helicopters, the maintenance of the aircraft is also difficult when the ship moves on the sea, it must use fixed ligaments, covered with canvas to avoid the influence of the weather, etc.

With the addition of the hangar to the battleship Dinh Tien Hoang and the long voyage, the said initiative will be applied to the remaining Gepard warships of the Vietnamese Navy.
