The Australian Army has received its first four remanufactured M113AS4 armoured personnel carriers (APCs) from Tenix, the vanguard of a major order of 350 vehicles expected to be delivered to the Australian Ministry of Defence (MoD) before 2010.

This AS4 version is designed for specific Australian Army requirements and features a range of modifications over previous models. In terms of mobility and ease of driving, the vehicle has been uprated with a more powerful EURO III-compliant four-stroke DaimlerChrysler-MTU engine coupled to a six-speed ZF automatic transmission. A yoke steering setup also now offers a pivot turn capability and natural steering input in reverse.
