The first RNZAF Beechcraft T-6C advanced trainer has made its first flight from Beechcraft’s Wichita facility in Kansas on June 10.
The aircraft – NZ1401 – made the flight with a Beechcraft company crew at the controls and lasted two hours, and functionality checks such as flight performance and handling characteristics were conducted. It will carry the US civil registration of N2824B while the initial flight test program is completed.
New Zealand ordered 11 T-6Cs in January to replace CT-4E trainers in the basic course, and elements of the advanced course currently conducted by the King Air. The first six RNZAF Qualified Flying Instructors (QFIs) are due to commence their conversion to the T-6C in August, and the first four aircraft will be delivered by the end of this year.
The aircraft will be based at Ohakea, and will commence pilot training in mid-2015 by which time all 11 aircraft will have been delivered.

First 2 F/A-50s to be Delivered in September 2015
27 Juni 2014

MANILA (PNA) -- Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin on Thursday said that the first two South Korean made F/A-50 "Fighting Eagle" jet aircraft will be delivered by September 2015.
But prior this, Air Force pilots with high jet time and maintenance crews, will be first sent to South Korea for briefing and training.
Gazmin expects delivery of the remaining F/A-50s to be completed within two years after the delivery of the first two.
"And after the F/A-50s, we are hoping that we will soon acquire our first modern fighter aircraft," the defense chief said in Filipino.
The Philippines and South Korea signed the P18.9-billion contract for the 12 F/A-50 units last March 28.
The South Korean jet aircraft can be used to redevelop the supersonic capabilities of the PAF whose last supersonic planes, the Northrop F-5 "Tiger", was retired last 2005.
The F/A-50, as per technical specifications obtained from the Department of National Defense (DND), can carry a total of 10,500lbs of weapons including an internal 20-mm automatic cannon, two short-ranged air-to-air AIM-9 "Sidewinder" missiles and air-to-surface AGM-65 missiles for close-air support.
A guidance kit called the JDAM (joint direct attack munition) is also installed into the F/A-50, allowing it to convert unguided or "dumb bombs" into all-weather smart munitions.
These bombs are outfitted with an inertial guidance system that is tied to a global positioning system receiver to guide the deployed munition intended to precisely hit a specific target, and to minimize collateral damage.
This is the first-ever Philippine Air Force (PAF) aircraft to employ such weapons as the Northrop F-5 "Tiger" and Vought F-8 "Crusader" which are the country's first class supersonic fighters do not have the above-mentioned capabilities.
Both planes are only armed with 20mm cannons, air-to-air missiles and unguided bombs and rockets.
The Philippines retired its F-8 fleet sometime in 1990 due to maintenance costs.
Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI)'s F/A-50 has a top speed of Mach 1.5 or one and half times the speed of sound.
The F/A-50 will act as the country's interim fighter until the Philippines get enough experience of operating fast jet assets and money to fund the acquisition of more capable fighter aircraft.
The F/A-50 design is largely derived from the F-16 "Fighting Falcon", and they have many similarities: use of a single engine, speed, size, cost, and the range of weapons.
The aircraft has a maximum speed of Mach 1.4-1.5.

Indonesian SAMs Break Cover, Promising Enhanced Anti-UAV Capability
27 Juni 2014
Indonesia's new Starstreak-armed light SAM system will also carry LMM, affording the system a surface-to-surface and anti-UAV capability (photo : Jane's)
The new Land Rover-based surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems destined for Indonesia went on public display for the first time at the Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD 2014) exhibition at Millbrook Proving Ground on 25 June.
Indonesia ordered the Thales Starstreak SAMs as part of a wider ForceShield air defence package in January 2014 and is understood to have subsequently signed up to acquire Thales' Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) in mid-June. Both missiles share a similar physical footprint and are virtually identical from the warhead back, with exactly the same physical connector on their canisters to link into the pedestal mount, enabling the weapons to be carried in mixed loads.
Indonesia's new Starstreak SAM vehicles have been outfitted by Hobson Industries and offer space for six canisterised reloads beneath the firing platform. (photo : Jane's)
LMM is primarily an anti-surface weapon - it has been selected for the UK's new Future Anti-Surface Guided Weapon (Light) requirement, for example - but it also offers a limited air-defence capability. Warrant Officer Graham Chastell, a member of the UK Defence And Security Organisation's Export Support Group, told IHS Jane's that the weapon's shaped charge/blast fragmentation warhead offers a better capability against small unmanned aerial vehicles and slow helicopters than the triple-hittile Starstreak.
Three ready-to-fire weapons are carried on a pedestal mounted on Land Rover 110 twin-cab vehicles, outfitted for the role by Hobson Industries. Modifications include building a flat loadbed with fold-out sides to increase the operator area, mechanical stabilisers to steady the platform and limited shielding on the rear of the cab. The Land Rover's traditional cargo area is retained beneath the firing platform, offering storage for six missile reloads and other spares.
The launcher platform was designed by Hobson Industries to be manufactured and fitted in country by Indonesian sub-contractor PT Len under the Offset Requirements required under the Thales contract. Test firings of the system have been carried out by Thales Missile Systems in Northern Ireland and marked yet another programme first. (photo : Combat & Survival)
Thales refused to specify any delivery dates or discuss build numbers, citing customer confidentiality. However, an Indonesian defence source told IHS Jane's earlier in the year that "the British system consists of five batteries costing USD170 million. Funds have been allocated for both, but the systems have yet to be delivered."

Amunisi Meriam Caesar 155 Akan Diproduksi PT Pindad
26 Juni 2014
Amunisi meriam Caesar 155 mm (all photos : Detik)
Roanne - Sambil menyelam minum air.
Seperti diketahui, Indonesia membeli 37 unit Caesar 155 dengan biaya US$ 141 juta.

MANILA (PNA) -- Four of the 21 refurbished UH-1H “Huey” combat utility helicopters, acquired to beef up the Philippine Air Force, are now in Clark Field, Pampanga and being assembled, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said on Thursday.
He also stated that they are hoping that the assembly of the four helicopters will be completed in time for the PAF’s 67th founding anniversary this July 1.
Another three is en-route and expected to arrive before the end of July.
Gazmin expects the remaining 14 to arrive before the end of 2014.
Sources said these planes were acquired as the PAF’s “Huey” fleet was whittled down to just 18 helicopters, from an estimated 100, due to airframe aging and accidents.
The contract for the 21 refurbished UH-1Hs is estimated to be worth over Php1 billion.

Nexter Serahkan 4 Meriam Caesar 155mm
26 Juni 2014
