Australia Delivers New Guardian-class Patrol Boat to the Republic of the Marshall Islands

The Republic of the Marshall Islands has taken delivery of a new Guardian-class Patrol Boat, RMIS Jelmae, in a ceremony at HMAS Stirling, Western Australia.

The Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Hon Kalani Kaneko, received the vessel on behalf of the Government of the Marshall Islands.

Australia and the Marshall Islands share a strong partnership, underpinned by a shared focus on maritime security.

The vessel will strengthen the Marshall Islands’ maritime capability and assist in responding to national and regional priorities.

The vessel will replace Pacific Patrol Boat, RMIS Lomor 03, which was delivered to the Marshall Islands by Australia in 1991. RMIS Lomor 03 was the longest-serving Pacific Patrol Boat, operating for almost 35 years.

RMIS Jelmae is the 23rd vessel delivered under Australia’s Pacific Maritime Security Program – a 30-year commitment with our Pacific partners to support a stable, prosperous and secure region. 

This milestone marks the final delivery of a Guardian-class Patrol Boat to a Pacific partner nation under the Pacific Maritime Security Program.

The Australian Government continues to partner with the Pacific on our shared regional maritime security, through the $5.9 billion invested into the Pacific Maritime Security Program.

Final Guardian-Class Patrol Boat Launched

We're proud to announce the successful launch of Hull 544 — the final Guardian-class Patrol Boat contracted for construction under the Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project (SEA3036-1) for Defence Australia.

The launch marks a significant milestone in the (now) 24 vessel program that began in May 2017 with the plate cutting on the first Guardian, HMPNGS Ted Diro; and has seen 22 vessels delivered to date, to support maritime security across the Pacific.

Every Guardian-class Patrol Boat constructed by Austal here in Henderson Western Australia reflects the skill, dedication and resilience of our #team and our supply chain and industry partners. 

Through challenges and change, we have worked collaboratively to refine processes, strengthen capability and establish a highly efficient steel shipbuilding production line.

RNZAF Returns to Fiji and Takes Opportunity to Show MC-12K King Air Capability to Tongan Military

Aircrews on the MC-12K King Air regularly provide maritime patrols to detect and deter illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in New Zealand’s exclusive economic zone.

Earlier this year, an MC-12K King Air flew to Fiji in what was a first for RNZAF’s No 42 Squadron deploying the aircraft to the South West Pacific region.

The aircrew worked in support of the Fijian Maritime Essential Services Centre, conducting patrols searching for IUU fishing and also pleasure craft activity in Fijian waters as Fijian authorities strive to combat transnational organised crime in their region. 

On the aircraft’s second deployment to Fiji, patrols were carried out in various locations including a small island chain approximately 150 nautical miles south of Nausori, and also over an area of approximately 9500 square kilometres spanning Yasawa to Kia Island.

The recent return to Fiji enabled the aircrew to also demonstrate the aircraft’s capabilities to neighbouring Tonga. At the end of the Fijian operation, the crew and aircraft departed for its first visit to Tonga, and took two members of His Majesty’s Armed Forces, with experience in maritime surveillance operations, on board as the aircraft patrolled in the vicinity of Pangai Island in the Ha’apai group.

Air Component Commander, Air Commodore Andy Scott, said it was great to build on the success of the first deployment with another into the region.

“The South West Pacific provides an ​excellent operating environment for our crews and enhances the strong partnerships between New Zealand and our friends in the region.”  

Squadron Leader Craig Graham, who was the detachment commander for the deployment, said the return visit to Fiji was also important for the crew as it provided an opportunity for more junior pilots to step up. Flight Lieutenant Jamie Hull deployed on both operations captaining patrols in Fiji and the international transit flights back to New Zealand. 

Squadron Leader Graham said Flight Lieutenant Hull had only been flying in the MC-12K King Air for two years and this deployment provided an opportunity for him to gain valuable experience by leading his crew on a complex operation.

Supporting a safe and strong Tonga

Assistant Minister for Defence, Peter Khalil, will travel to the Kingdom of Tonga today to represent the Australian Government at the commissioning ceremony for His Majesty’s Armed Forces’ new landing craft, VOEA Late, at the Masefield Naval Base. 

Delivered under the Albanese Government’s Pacific Maritime Security Program,  will strengthen Tonga’s ability to deliver humanitarian assistance and disaster relief during times of need, as well as its ability to deter, detect and disrupt illegal maritime activities across the region.

His Majesty King Tupou VI will formally commission the vessel, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for His Majesty’s Armed Forces, will also attend the ceremony.

Australia will continue to support the Tongan Royal Navy via a through-life maintenance and sustainment package, along with training for crew members to ensure the vessel’s operational readiness. 

The commissioning of VOEA Late is the latest demonstration of the enduring strength of the Australia and Tonga bilateral relationship and follows the recent signing of a Statement of Intent announcing a shared commitment to elevate ties between our two nations under the proposed ‘Kaume’a ‘Ofi’ (close trusted friendship) Partnership Agreement.

Today’s ceremony marks the vessel’s official entry into service, following its delivery and handover at Masefield Naval Base on 29 August 2025.

Australia Delivered New Landing Craft to Tonga

Australia has successfully delivered a new landing craft vessel to Tonga today, with an official handover ceremony taking place at the Masefield Naval Base. 

The ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupouto‘a ‘Ulukalala, Tonga's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for His Majesty's Armed Forces, who received the vessel on behalf of Tonga.

The VOEA Late, provided under the Pacific Maritime Security Program (PMSP), will enhance Tonga’s humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities, as well as their ability to deter, detect and disrupt illegal maritime activities in the region.

Australia will provide a comprehensive package of through-life maintenance and sustainment for the vessel, alongside training for Tonga Royal Navy crew members. 

Defence’s First Assistant Secretary Pacific Division, Susan Bodell, said the delivery highlighted Australia’s commitment to supporting our Pacific partners’ maritime security.

“Australia and Tonga share a trusted and enduring security partnership,” Ms Bodell said.

“The delivery of the new landing craft builds on decades of partnership, and upholds our shared commitment to sovereignty, security and prosperity in the Pacific.”

The delivery follows the completion of comprehensive training undertaken by Tonga Royal Navy personnel at the Australian Maritime College in Tasmania. The training equipped the crew with the necessary skills to safely operate the vessel.

The PMSP is Australia’s 30 year commitment to increase national and regional maritime security throughout the Pacific, and builds on the three decades of success in the original Pacific Patrol Boat Program.

Guardian-class Patrol Boat RVS Takuare Returned to Vanuatu

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Richard Marles met with Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon Andrew Napuat in Cairns to mark the return of Vanuatu’s Guardian-class Patrol Boat, RVS Takuare.

RVS Takuare has been undergoing repairs to the hull and an internal fit-out after the vessel suffered catastrophic damage during Cyclone Kevin in 2023.

This marks an important milestone in Australia and Vanuatu’s maritime security cooperation under the Pacific Maritime Security Program – Australia’s 30-year commitment of uninterrupted engagement with our Pacific partners.

The Guardian-class Patrol Boat capability allows Vanuatu to continue the important work of protecting ni‑Vanuatu sovereign maritime resources, supporting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, responding national priorities and contributing to regional maritime security. 

During his bilateral meeting with Minister Napuat, the Deputy Prime Minister also reaffirmed the shared commitment of Vanuatu and Australia to develop a new Nakamal agreement which will cover a broad range of issues including economic resilience, security, and climate change.

As close Pacific neighbours, Australia warmly welcomes the invitation from Vanuatu for a Nakamal agreement and looks forward to using this concept to strengthen our ties.  

A Nakamal is a meeting place in Vanuatu where the community and its leaders discuss, consult, and make decisions. Australia is honoured to have this name attached to a bilateral initiative.

Fiji Takes Ownership of New Guardian-class Patrol Boat

Fiji has today taken delivery of a new Guardian-class Patrol Boat in Henderson, Western Australia.

The new vessel will enhance Fiji’s maritime security capability in support of a peaceful, prosperous and resilient region

Australia and Fiji are committed to enhancing security cooperation to respond to shared regional challenges such as transnational crime and maritime security threats.

This is the third Guardian‑class Patrol Boat delivered to Fiji, and the 22nd vessel delivered by Australia under the Pacific Maritime Security Program – Australia’s 30‑year commitment to uninterrupted engagement with our Pacific partners in support of a stable, prosperous and secure region.

The renewed and elevated cooperation between Australia and Fiji under the Vuvale Partnership is based on trust and mutual respect.

Selama 48 Hari Mengelilingi Negara Kawasan Pasifik Selatan, Satgas Port Visit 2024 Tiba di Tanah Air

Setelah berlayar selama 48 hari dengan mengarungi Samudera Pasifik Selatan serta menyinggahi 4 negara masing-masing Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu dan Papua Nugini, Kapal Perang Republik Indonesia (KRI) dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 (KRI WSH-991) akhirnya tiba di tanah air dan bersandar Dermaga Lantamal XIV Sorong, Papua Barat, Senin (25/11/2024).

 

Di bawah pimpinan Komandan Satgas (Dansatgas) Kolonel Laut (P) Arif Prasetyo dan Komandan KRI WSH-991 Kolonel Laut (P) Edi Herdiana, KRI WSH-991 yang membawa misi kemanusiaan sebagai Duta Bangsa ke negara kawasan Pasifik Selatan disambut oleh Kepala Staf Koarmada III Laksma TNI Singgih Sugiarto didampingi Kadis Perhubungan Papua Barat Daya Bapak Victor F. Salosa.

Acara penyambutan diawali dengan pengalungan bunga oleh Kepala Staf Koarmada III dan Kadishub Papua Barat Daya kepada Dansatgas dan Komandan KRI WSH-991 dilanjutkan pemberian cinderamata berupa topi Satgas oleh Dansatgas, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan tradisi valreep diatas KRI. Selanjutnya, rombongan diarahkan ke Lounge Room Perwira dilanjutkan rombongan diajak untuk menyaksikan penampilan kesenian tarian Nusantara di geladak heli KRI WSH-991 bersama-sama dengan para undangan yang hadir.

Penyambutan tersebut diwarnai dengan persembahan Tari Saman yang berasal dari Provinsi Aceh,  dilanjutkan Sambutan oleh Kepala Staf Koarmada III dan Kadishub Papua Barat Daya sambil menikmati hidangan khas Indonesia, para tamu juga disuguhi hiburan dan tarian-tarian Nusantara yang dibawakan oleh personel Satgas dan Pelajar diantaranya Tari Reog Ponorogo dari Ponorogo Jawa Timur, Tari Kreasi Papua, keterampilan bela diri Pencak Silat, Tari Falabea atau tari perang dari Papua, dan Tari Yembo Papua dan ditutup dengan Foto bersama.

Dalam berbagai kesempatan, Kepala Staf Angkatan Laut (Kasal) Laksamana TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali menyampaikan kepada seluruh prajurit Jalasena yang tengah menjalankan misi diplomasi agar senantiasa memberikan yang terbaik dalam setiap tugas yang diamanahkan.

Tuntas dan Berhasil Emban Misi Diplomasi Di Pasifik Selatan, Satgas Port Visit 2024 Kembali Ke Tanah Air

TNI AL/Koarmada III --- Satuan Tugas Port Visit 2024 KRI dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo (WSH) -991 selesai mengemban misi diplomasi di empat negara di Pasifik Selatan. Satgas tolak dari Port Moresby Harbour, Papua New Guinea(PNG) menuju tanah air dilepas oleh Dubes RI untuk Papua New Guinea Bapak Andriana Supandi bersama Athan RI untuk Papua New Guinea Kolonel Inf Piter Dwi Ardianto dan para Staf KBRI PNG beserta masyarakat PNG.Pada Rabu pagi, (20/11/24)

Satgas Port Visit kembali ke tanah air menuju Sorong setelah sebelumnya menjalankan misi diplomasi TNI AL di empat negara Pasifik Selatan yaitu negara Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu dan terakhir di PNG. Pelayaran menuju Sorong akan ditempuh selama lima hari, diperkirakan pada tanggal 25 November KRI WSH-991 akan tiba di Sorong.

Dubes RI untuk Papua New Guinea sangat senang atas keberhasilan Satgas mengemban misi diplomasi duta bangsa "Saya mewakili pemerintah Indonesia mengucapkan selamat atas keberhasilan misi diplomasi perdamaian ini, salam hormat untuk Panglima TNI Jenderal TNI Agus Subiyanto, Kepala Staf Angkatan Laut (KASAL) Laksamana TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali, dan Panglima Komando Armada (Pangkoarmada) III Laksamana Muda TNI Hersan, S.H., M.Si. yang telah mendukung kegiatan Port Visit 2024 di Wilayah Pasifik Selatan."

"Kegiatan ini diinisiasi oleh Presiden RI Jenderal TNI (Purn) H. Prabowo Subianto pada saat beliau menjadi Menteri Pertahanan (Menhan) RI untuk mempererat hubungan diplomatik dan persahabatan dengan negara-negara di Pasifik Selatan." Ungkapnya.

Lebih lanjut lagi dikatakan, "saya juga berterima kasih kepada Komandan Satgas Port Visit 2024 Kolonel Laut (P) Arif Prasetyo dan Komandan KRI dr. Etape Terakhir Misi Diplomasi , Satgas Port Visit 2024 Tiba Di Papua New Guinea (PNG)

TNI AL/Koarmada III --- Satuan Tugas (Satgas) Port Visit 2024 KRI dr. Wahidin Sudiro Husodo (WSH) -991 tiba di Negara Papua New Guinea yang merupakan negara terakhir dalam misi diplomasi sebelum kembali ke negara Indonesia. Saat tiba, Satgas disambut oleh Dubes RI untuk PNG Bapak Andriani Supandi didampingi Dan Pasmar 3 Brigjen TNI (Mar) Sugianto, S.Sos., M.M., M.Tr.Opsla. bersama dengan WNI yang berada di Papua New Guinea, bertempat di Port Moresby Harbour, pada minggu siang waktu setempat. Saat KRI WSH-991 sudah sandar di dermaga, Dansatgas Port Visit 2024 Kolonel Laut (P) Arif Prasetyo turun untuk menyambut dan memberi penghormatan kepada Dubes RI untuk PNG dan Komandan Pasmar 3. Selanjutnya Dubes RI beserta rombongan masuk ke KRI WSH-991 dengan melewati valreep dari Prajurit KRI.

Acara dimulai dengan sambutan Dan Pasmar 3 menyampaikan, "Rasa bangga dan terimakasih kepada Dubes RI beserta staf KBRI, Para Pejabat Papua New Guinea, WNI yang berada di Papua New Guinea, dan masyarakat Papua New Guinea dalam menyambut kedatangan KRI WSH-991 yang akan melaksanakan misi muhibah dan diplomasi di PNG dengan melaksanakan beberapa kegiatan dan program." Ujar Brigjen Mar Sugianto.

Sementara itu Dubes RI mengatakan "selamat datang di Negara Papua New Guinea, terimakasih atas kunjungan, pengabdian, dan dedikasinya Satgas Port Visit 2024 dalam mengemban misi menjalin hubungan diplomasi di negara-negara kawasan Pasifik Selatan yang salah satunya adalah negara Papua New Guinea,"

Sementara itu dikesempatan yang berbeda Pangkoarmada III Laksamana Muda TNI Hersan, S.H., M.Si.,mengatakan misi Satgas Port Visit 2024 melaksanakan tugas diplomasi TNI Angkatan Laut dalam rangka mendukung kebijakan politik luar negeri yang ditetapkan oleh pemerintah, operasi diplomasi ini juga untuk membangun kepercayaan dan persahabatan (confidence building measure) dengan negara-negara di Kawasan.

Penuh Haru dan Bangga, Masyarakat Vanuatu Lepas Satgas Port Visit 2024 Menuju Papua New Guinea

TNI AL/Koarmada III -- Selesai melaksanakan misi kemanusiaan dan perdamaian di Negara Vanuatu, Satuan Tugas (Satgas) Port Visit 2024 KRI WSH-991 melanjutkan pelayaran menuju Negara Papua New Guinea yang dilepas dengan penuh haru dan Bangga oleh masyarakat Vanuatu pada Selasa pagi waktu setempat. Diakhir misi di Vanuatu terlihat suasana keakraban yang terjalin antara masyarakat Vanuatu dengan personel Satgas Port Visit 2024, bahkan ada salah satu masyarakat Vanuatu saat kapal akan berangkat memberikan kenang-kenangan kepada personel Satgas Port Visit 2024.

Menurut Dansatgas Port Visit Kolonel Laut (P) Arif Prasetyo, masyarakat Vanuatu merasa terbantu dan terkesan dengan program dan kegiatan satgas berupa pemeriksaan kesehatan, pentas seni dan karya bakti. Selain itu sikap dan prilaku yang ditunjukan prajurit TNI AL selama berinteraksi dengan masyarakat Vanuatu yang humanis dan ramah membuat mereka nyaman saat berinteraksi.

Tiba di Negara Vanuatu, Satgas Port Visit 2024 Terima Sambutan Hangat

Jakarta --Setelah menempuh perjalanan selama 4 hari dengan jarak tempuh 609 NM dari Negara Fiji dengan melintasi laut Pasifik Selatan. Satgas Port Visit 2024 menggunakan KRI dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 (KRI WSH-991) yang dikomandani Kolonel Laut (P) Edi Herdiana, akhirnya tiba di etape ketiga yaitu Negara Vanuatu di Dermaga Port Vila Vanuatu. Sabtu (09/11).

Kedatangan KRI WSH-991 dalam rangka pelayaran muhibah diplomasi ke negara kawasan Pasifik Selatan dibawah pimpinan Komandan Satuan Tugas (Dansatgas) Port Visit 2024 Kolonel Laut (P) Arif Prasetyo ini, mendapat sambutan yang hangat dari Duta Besar (Dubes) Indonesia untuk Australia merangkap Vanuatu yaitu Bapak Dr. Siswo Pramono.

Beberapa agenda kegiatan yang akan dilaksanakan selama bersandar di Vanuatu diantaranya adalah penyerahan obat obatan, lalu pelaksanaan bakti kesehatan, pelaksanaan bakti sosial, dan juga open ship untuk masyarakat.

Dubes RI dalam kesempatan tersebut menyampaikan ucapan selamat datang di negara Vanuatu serta mengucapkan terima kasih atas jamuan yang luar biasa dari Satgas.

Pada kesempatan yang sama, Dansatgas juga menyampaikan terima kasih atas sambutan hangat dari Dubes RI beserta Staf KBRI maupun dari pihak Atase Pertahanan yang ada di Vanuatu.

Kegiatan penyambutan diawali dengan pemberian cinderamata berupa topi Satgas oleh Dansatgas kepada Dubes RI dan rombongan yang kemudian kegiatan dilanjutkan dengan kunjungan ke KRI WSH-991. Dalam giat tersebut juga dilaksanakan penyerahan cinderamata dari Dubes RI dan Athan Canberra Australia kepada Komandan KRI WSH-991. 

Kemudian acara dilanjutkan dengan rapat yang dipimpin Dubes RI terkait rencana kegiatan selama sandar di Vanuatu. Seusai rapat, Komandan KRI WSH-991 mengajak para tamu melaksanakan tour facility untuk melihat kapal bantu rumah sakit milik TNI AL secara langsung.

TNI AL/Koarmada III -- Usai melaksanakan misi kemanusiaan dan perdamaian di Negara Fiji, Satuan Tugas (Satgas) Port Visit 2024 dilepas oleh Duta Besar (Dubes RI) untuk Fiji Dupito D. Simamora bersama dengan Kepala Staf (Kas) Koarmada III Laksamana Pertama TNI Singgih Sugiarto, S.T., M.Si., menuju etape berikutnya yaitu negara Vanuatu di Nort Kings Wharf, Suva, Fiji pada Selasa pagi waktu setempat. TNI AL/Koarmada III -- Setelah menempuh pelayaran selama 5 hari dari Solomon Islands, Satuan Tugas (Satgas) Port Visit 2024 KRI dr.WSH-991 tiba di Negara Fiji tepatnya di Nort Kings Wharf, Suva, Fiji, pada Sabtu pagi waktu setempat. (02/11/24).

Kedatangan Satgas Port Visit 2024 saat akan Sandar di dermaga setempat diiringi marching band Fiji Navy dan disambut oleh Dubes RI untuk Fiji Bapak Dupito D. Simamora, Athan RI untuk Fiji Kolonel Arhanud Dedy Rahmanto berserta istri serta Navy LO the INS visit is SBLT Josefa Navakaroko.

Turut hadir pula Bapak Sandy Darmosumarto Minister Conselor, Victor Sibarani Sekretaris Pertama KBRI, Diplomat Oilong Sarwom Sekretaris ketiga KBRI Diplomat, Saola Twikoro Staf KBRI Suva, Timaima Rayawa Staf KBRI Suva, dan Yosefin Watikyo Staf Athan RI beserta para warga Fiji yang berada dilokasi.

Acara penyambutan diawali dengan pemberian cinderamata berupa topi Satgas oleh Dansatgas Kolonel Laut (P) Arif Prasetyo kepada Dubes RI dan rombongan kemudian dilanjutkan dengan tradisi Valreep diatas KRI.

KRI dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 Lanjutkan Pelayaran dari Solomon Islands ke Fiji

Setelah sandar di Solomon Islands selama tiga hari, KRI dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 (KRI WSH-991) melanjutkan etape kedua pelayaran Satgas Port Visit 2024 ke Fiji dari Dermaga Honiara Solomon Islands, Senin (28/10/2024).

Pelepasan keberangkatan KRI WSH-991 ini dihadiri  oleh Konsulat Kehormatan Solomon Islands Mr. Roland Piko beserta Ibu, Athan Indonesia untuk Papua New Guinea dan Solomon Island Kolonel Inf Piter Dwi Ardianto, As Athan Mayor Mar Risa Bekti Kumbara, Ibu Rani selaku Ketua Salomon Islands Indonesia Friendship Association/SIIFA, dan  Bapak Agus selaku Staf Konsulat Kehormatan.

Sebelum keberangkatan pelayaran etape kedua ke Fiji, prajurit KRI dan Satgas Port Visit 2024 beserta pelajar melaksanakan apel kelengkapan yang dipimpin oleh Palaksa Mayor Laut (P) Maladi dilanjutkan laporan kesiapan kapal kepada Komandan KRI WSH-991 Kolonel Laut (P) Edi Herdiana, S.T., M.Tr.Opsla.

Adapun tujuan dari pelaksanaan Satgas Port Visit 2024 ke negara kawasan Pasifik Selatan adalah untuk menjalin hubungan yang baik di segi diplomasi pertahanan, sehingga dapat mewujudkan misi perdamaian dengan negara kawasan Pasifik Selatan. Berbagai negara yang akan dikunjungi antara lain Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu dan Papua New Guinea.

Kepala Staf Angkatan Laut (Kasal) Laksamana TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali dalam berbagai kesempatan menyampaikan kepada seluruh prajurit Jalasena yang tengah menjalankan misi muhibah diplomasi agar meningkatkan hubungan diplomasi dan kerjasama yang baik dengan negara-negara sahabat yang dikunjungi, serta menjaga nama baik TNI, TNI AL, bangsa, dan negara.

21st Guardian-class Patrol Boat Delivered to Tuvalu to Replace Damaged Boat

Austal Australia delivers 21st Guardian-class Patrol Boat

Austal Limited (Austal) (ASX: ASB) is pleased to announce Austal Australia has delivered the 21st Guardian-class Patrol Boat (GCPB) to the Australian Department of Defence.

The vessel, Te Mataili III, was officially accepted by the Commonwealth of Australia by The Honourable Matt Keogh MP, Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans Affairs, and then gifted to the Pacific Island nation of Tuvalu, represented by Prime Minister, The Honourable Feleti Teo, at a handover ceremony held at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia on 16th October 2024.

Te Mataili III replaces Te Mataili II, a Guardian-class Patrol Boat that was gifted to Tuvalu in 2019 and operated successfully until damaged beyond economic repair during twin cyclones that hit Vanuatu in 2023.   

Austal Limited Chief Executive Officer Paddy Gregg said the delivery of the 21st Guardian-class patrol boat continued to highlight the efficiency of the Austal Australia team, delivering the Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project for the Commonwealth of Australia.

“Austal Australia has now delivered 21 Guardian-class Patrol Boats in just five years, which is a fantastic achievement and great demonstration of the capability and efficiency of the Western Australian naval shipbuilding industry,” Mr Gregg said.

“For five years now, we have been collaborating successfully with our supply chain and project partners (including the Department of Defence), industry stakeholders and Royal Australian Navy to deliver this important, sovereign capability-building project for Australia and our Pacific Island neighbours.

“Our thanks yet again to everyone who has contributed and continues to contribute to the success of the Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project,” Mr Gregg added.

The Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project was awarded to Austal Australia in May 2016, with subsequent, contract options awarded in April 2018, November 2022 and June 2024, taking the project to 24 vessels, valued at more than A$400 million, in total.

The Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project continues to support 200 direct jobs at Austal Australia and more than 200 indirect jobs nationally, through Australian businesses contracted by Austal.

Through close collaboration with supply chain partners and the Department of Defence, Austal is achieving over 60% Australian Industry Content on the Guardian-class Patrol Boats and helping to build the National Naval Shipbuilding Enterprise and Australia’s sovereign capability.

The 39.5 metre steel monohull patrol boat – designed, constructed and sustained by Austal Australia – is based on a proven design platform that has included the 38 metre Bay-class, 56 metre Armidale-class and 58 metre Cape-class patrol boats that are in service with the Australian Border Force and Royal Australian Navy. Faster than the previous Pacific-class patrol boats, with improved seakeeping, better amenities, and an enhanced mission capability – including an integrated RHIB stern launch and recovery system – the Guardian-class Patrol Boat provides Tuvalu with another effective naval asset to carry out border patrols, regional policing, search and rescue, and many other operations domestically and internationally.

Vanuatu Lakukan Komisioning Kapal Pendarat Hibah Australia

Vanuatu telah meresmikan kapal pendarat yang diterimanya dengan bantuan dari Canberra, Chief of the Defence Force Australia Admiral David Johnston mengonfirmasi dalam sebuah pernyataan yang dirilis melalui laman media sosial resminya pada tanggal 31 Juli.

Kapal tersebut diberi nama RVS Sokomanu dengan nomor panji 04, dan dilantik ke dalam Wing Maritim Kepolisian Vanuatu pada tanggal 30 Juli di Port Vila.

“Kapal tersebut menunjukkan komitmen Australia untuk meningkatkan kemampuan Vanuatu dalam bantuan kemanusiaan dan tanggap bencana,” demikian pernyataan dari Laksamana Johnston.

Canberra sejauh ini hanya merilis sedikit informasi tentang kapal yang diserahkannya, tetapi sumber informasi terbuka menunjukkan bahwa Sokomanu adalah kapal pendarat panjang 47 m yang dilengkapi dengan desain haluan landai, dan dapat membawa muatan hingga 450 ton.

Gambar kapal yang dipublikasikan melalui beberapa saluran media sosial resmi lainnya, termasuk milik Komisi Tinggi Australia di Vanuatu, selanjutnya menunjukkan bahwa kapal tersebut dilengkapi dengan derek seberat 30 ton di dek kargonya.

“Kapal yang didukung Australia tersebut sangat cocok untuk mendukung segala upaya kemanusiaan dan bantuan bencana yang mungkin melanda Vanuatu. Kapal tersebut mampu mencapai pantai dangkal dan berlayar di lautan terbuka,” demikian bunyi pernyataan terpisah yang dirilis oleh halaman media sosial Komisi Tinggi Australia pada tanggal 8 Juni.

Pernyataan lama ini dirilis untuk menandai dimulainya perjalanan kapal ke Vanuatu dari Singapura.
