Russia will Launch the First of Six Submarines for the Vietnam Navy

MOSCOW - RIA Novosti. First of six ordered by Vietnam diesel-electric submarines of Project 636 will be launched at the shipyard, "Admiralty Shipyards" (St. Petersburg) in August this year, told RIA Novosti on Tuesday, a source in the defense industrial complex.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, in December 2009 announced the signing of a contract for the supply of Russian submarines, six Project 636 worth about $ 2 billion.

"The first submarine in accordance with the contract will be launched in August this year, after which it will begin a cycle of tests" - a spokesman said, adding that the ceremony will be held on August 28.

He also said that before the end of 2012 the first submarine will be transferred to the customer.

Execution of the contract to be completed by 2016.

The submarines of Project 636 has a full displacement of 3,100 tons, speed 20 knots, diving depth of 300 meters, the crew of 52 people. Are in service with the torpedo 533 millimeter (six units), mines, missile strike "Caliber" (NATO : SS-N-27 Sizzler).
