The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) receives two 27-meter marine protector-class patrol vessels from the United States of America (USA), expanding the country’s search and rescue (SAR), marine environmental protection, and maritime domain awareness capabilities.

According to PCG Spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab PCG, the patrol vessels will be commissioned into the Coast Guard Fleet as BRP Pag-asa (PATS-2701) and BRP Patag (PATS-2702) following their expected arrival in Manila waters in October 2026.


The transfer follows the completion of specialized operational and maintenance training by 24 PCG crew members for the two patrol vessels in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Their graduation was held on August 20, 2026.

“BRP Pag-asa (PATS-2701) and BRP Patag (PATS-2702) will strengthen the Philippine Coast Guard’s operational efficiency in safeguarding the country’s vast waters. They will enhance our ability to conduct maritime safety operations and respond to emergencies at sea, including oil spills and other marine environmental protection challenges,” Commodore Cayabyab said.


The PCG Spokesperson added that the initiative reflects the longstanding partnership between the Philippines and the USA and their shared commitment to maritime security and regional stability across the Indo-Pacific.

The acquisition supports President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr’s “Bagong Pilipinas” vision through the PCG’s Organized National Engagement (ONE) at Sea strategic concept and Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) campaign.

The Department of Navy is developing the Air Intercept Missile (AIM)-424 Long Range Air to Air Missile (LRAAM), a next-generation missile intended to strengthen fleet defense and maintain a decisive air domain overmatch against advanced threats. Also known as Malice, LRAAM directly supports the Department’s contribution to integrated deterrence by increasing range, lethality, and combat effectiveness for Marine and Naval aviation forces that are defending our fleets, our interests, and our homeland.

LRAAM sustains the Department’s first look, first shot, first kill advantage by providing our aviators greater reach, greater survivability, and greater tactical flexibility in the air-to-air fight. Built for 4th, 5th, and 6th generation platforms, LRAAM is designed for the air wing of today and the future.

Pesawat-pesawat disusun dari kiri ke kanan: F-5TH, Alpha Jet-TH, F-16 OCU, Saab 340 AEW, Gripen D, T-50TH, AT-6TH, dan Aerostar-BP (paling depan)

Pengamatan:
1. Set senjata ini terutama untuk F-16 OCU di Wing 1, Korat.

2. IRIS-T belum ada. Meskipun ada gambar-gambar terbaru yang menunjukkan pengujiannya dengan F-16 di Korat, skuadron terdekat yang memiliki rudal IRIS-T adalah Wing 21 di Ubon Ratchathani, yang menggunakannya dengan F-5.


3. AGM-65 masih dipajang, yang mungkin berarti masih dapat digunakan, tetapi kemungkinan besar sudah sangat tua.

4. Mk 82 adalah seri yang diproduksi oleh Angkatan Udara Kerajaan Thailand sendiri.


5. M905 adalah sumbu ekor detonasi tunda yang dirancang untuk meledak di dalam target, mirip dengan bom Bunker Buster. Namun, seri Mk tidak memiliki selubung keras untuk menembus bunker, dan bentuknya yang meruncing berarti tidak memiliki sifat-sifat Bunker Buster. Penetrasi tidak akan sedalam itu, bahkan dengan sumbu khusus, yang merupakan celah yang harus diatasi di masa depan, terutama setelah kesulitan yang dihadapi dalam menghancurkan bunker Kamboja.

6. Ada dua jenis bom Mk 82 yang mungkin tidak digunakan dalam bentrokan di  Perbatasan Thailand-Kamboja baru-baru ini: satu dengan sumbu ekor yang meningkatkan hambatan, digunakan untuk menjatuhkan bom di ketinggian rendah untuk memperlambat penurunan bom dan mencegah ledakan mempengaruhi pesawat yang menjatuhkan bom. Diperkirakan bahwa kekuatan udara Angkatan Udara Kerajaan Thailand pada saat itu tidak menggunakan jenis ini. Karena potensi risiko menghadapi tembakan balasan, lebih disukai untuk menjatuhkan bom di ketinggian menengah atau lebih tinggi.

Indonesia-China Jajaki Kerja Sama Pengembangan Teknologi Misil dan Roket

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia akan menjajaki kerja sama dengan China (Tiongkok) untuk mengembangkan teknologi pertahanan, termasuk teknologi pembuatan misil dan roket. Kerja sama tersebut menjadi salah satu pembahasan dalam pertemuan 2+2 antara Menteri Luar Negeri dan Menteri Pertahanan RI-RRT, Jumat, 21 Agustus 2026 di Kemlu RI, Jakarta.

Menhan RI Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin mengatakan, kerja sama industri pertahanan Indonesia-Tiongkok akan melanjutkan sejumlah pembahasan yang telah dilakukan sebelumnya. Salah satunya mencakup kerja sama pembangunan pabrik amunisi di Indonesia.

"Kita akan kerja sama di dalam pabrik amunisi. Kita akan kerja sama dengan misil, roket dan sebagainya yang belum kita buat," kata Sjafrie seusai pertemuan 2+2 yang berlangsung di Gedung Nusantara.


Menurut Sjafrie, Tiongkok juga diharapkan dapat membantu Indonesia melalui transfer teknologi. Dengan demikian, Indonesia tidak hanya memperoleh produk pertahanan, tetapi juga memiliki kemampuan untuk mengembangkan teknologi serupa secara mandiri.

"Dia (Tiongkok-red) bantu dan dia akan kirim transfer teknologi. Agar supaya kita bisa membangun pabrik bersama-sama di Indonesia," ujarnya menambahkan.

Sjafrie menegaskan, transfer teknologi menjadi salah satu hal yang ditekankan Indonesia dalam pembahasan kerja sama industri pertahanan dengan Tiongkok. Indonesia ingin mengembangkan kemampuan teknologi militernya dengan memanfaatkan pengalaman dan teknologi yang telah dikembangkan Tiongkok.

"Yang saya angkat adalah mengenai bagaimana RRT bisa melakukan transfer teknologi terhadap Indonesia yang juga ingin mengembangkan teknologi militer yang serupa. Dengan apa yang sudah dilaksanakan oleh RRT," ucap Sjafrie.

Ia menyebut, pengembangan teknologi misil dan roket tersebut ditargetkan mulai direalisasikan di Indonesia paling lambat pada 2027. Kerja sama itu akan dilakukan dalam bentuk pengembangan bersama atau joint development.

"Ini paling lambat 2027 (dimulai-red). Jadi joint development yang pindah pasti PT Pindad," ujar Sjafrie.

Selain industri pertahanan, Indonesia dan Tiongkok juga terus mengembangkan kerja sama di bidang latihan militer. Salah satunya melalui Heping Garuda yang dijadwalkan berlangsung sekitar September-Oktober 2026.

Sjafrie mengatakan, latihan tersebut merupakan bagian dari pembinaan dan peningkatan kerja sama militer kedua negara. Termasuk melalui pertukaran personel baik secara individu maupun satuan.

“Heping Garuda di tahun 2026 ini sama dengan Garuda Shield yang dilaksanakan bulan September. Jadi di dalam pembinaan latihan kemudian tukar-menukar personel, itu kita lakukan baik secara perorangan maupun secara kesatuan,” ucap Menhan RI.

“Heping Garuda di sekitar September-Oktober. Saya kurang jelas (lokasi-red), mungkin di sekitar Sumatra.”

Pertemuan 2+2 RI-RRT turut dihadiri Menhan Dong Jun, Menlu Sugiono serta Menlu Wang Yi. Pelaksanaannya dilakukan setelah Dialog Strategis Komprehensif (CSD) pertama RI-RRT di Kemlu RI, Jakarta.

Naval Command Western Mindanao Receives 42-foot Speedboat for Maritime Security

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Naval Command Western Mindanao (NCWM) received a 42-foot speedboat donated by Philip Morris Fortune Corporation, Inc. (PMFCI) during a turnover and blessing ceremony on 18 August 2026.


The additional asset will enhance NCWM’s capability to conduct rapid maritime patrols, surveillance, and security operations, strengthening the Command’s continuing efforts to curb illegal activities and maintain order in the waters of Western Mindanao.


NCWM expressed its appreciation to PMFCI for its valuable support to the Philippine Navy and for contributing to a safer and more secure maritime environment.

Hyundai Rotem and KAI Collaborate on Long-Range Air-to-Air Missile Development

Hyundai Rotem is partnering with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to internalize aviation weapon technology, including long-range air-to-air missiles to be mounted on the KF-21.

Hyundai Rotem announced on the 13th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on aviation armament business cooperation with KAI at the KAI headquarters in Sacheon, Gyeongnam on the 12th to enhance the global competitiveness of the K-defense industry and develop aviation armament.

The signing ceremony for the MOU, held in the presence of officials including Cho Hyung-joon, Head of Hyundai Rotem’s AD&RH Business Division, and Kim Yong-min, Head of KAI’s Business Division, was organized to expand technological cooperation and mutual exchange in the field of aviation armament based on the core competencies of both companies and to enhance competitiveness in the global market.

Through this agreement, the two companies plan to expand cooperation in various fields, including: 
 technical cooperation for the development and system integration of aircraft platforms, such as the Korean supersonic fighter KF-21, and air armaments, including long-range air-to-air missiles; 
▲ identification of package-type export models linking aircraft platforms and onboard armaments; and 
▲ joint identification of domestic and international business opportunities and global marketing.


This collaboration aims to secure a competitive edge in providing a "Total Solution" that offers aircraft and weapons as a single unit by combining Hyundai Rotem's guided weapon and propulsion system technologies with KAI's aircraft platform technology, in response to the recent trend in the global defense market of expanding package-type exports that offer integrated aircraft and weapons. In addition to this agreement, Hyundai Rotem plans to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic space industry and expanding domestic and international markets through its diverse space business capabilities.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Rotem has continuously expanded its business scope beyond ground weapon systems into the aerospace sector. The company has accumulated independent aerospace technological capabilities by conducting R&D on various future propulsion systems, including the development of hypersonic propulsion systems, a core technology for aircraft armament. Last year, the company secured various key technology R&D projects, such as the development of methane engine technology for reusable launch vehicles led by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), and the development of a long-range air-to-air guided weapon prototype and the hypersonic vehicle 'HyCore' led by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), thereby expanding its position as a key player in the future aerospace field.

"This agreement will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen competitiveness in the future aviation armament sector by combining the core technologies of both companies," said a Hyundai Rotem official. "Based on the expertise and business capabilities of both companies, we will contribute to strengthening national defense and enhancing self-reliant defense capabilities through healthy competition, and strive to help the domestic defense industry develop based on diversity."
