Torpedo launcher systems for the Royal Malaysian Navy’s six Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) have passed factory acceptance trials, British defense company Sea announced.
The company said it worked with Kuala Lumpur-based project engineering managers Budi Axis Sdn Bhd to achieve acceptance of the first weapons handling system in country.

J+S Ltd, which was acquired by Cohort company Sea in 2014, was awarded a contract to supply the torpedo launcher systems (TLS) for the new Royal Malaysian Navy vessels in 2014. Delivery of the first system was scheduled for 2017 with the final system due for delivery in 2021.
The torpedo launchers will comprise a pair of triple configuration, composite tubes mounted just aft of midships on the 111m ships. They are compatible with all lightweight NATO standard-sized torpedoes.

All six sets of handling systems will be manufactured in Malaysia, while production of the system electronics will also be progressively manufactured in Malaysia over the six ship sets.
“The modular nature of the system means that by utilizing a common tube selection panel as part of the combat management system the fire control electronics can be adapted to interface with the ship’s decoy launchers as well as the TLS,” SEA launcher business manager Eric Abretti said.

MANILA (PNA) -- The Philippine Navy (PN)'s first two anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopters will be armed with Spike NLOS missiles giving it a capability to engage hostile vessels beyond visual range.
The said weapon manufactured by Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. NLOS is short for "non-line of sight". It was originally designed to destroy tanks.
PN spokesperson Capt. Lincuna said these helicopters are the AgustaWestland AW-159 "Wildcats" which are scheduled to be delivered by 2018.
The Department of National Defense signed a contract with AugustaWestland, now Leonardo, to buy two AW-159 ASW helicopters for PHP5.362 billion, last year.
It will be deployed aboard the two frigates the Philippines has ordered from South Korea worth PHP16 billion.
Lincuna said the PN will be using Spike NLOS as a anti-ship weapon due to its claimed range of 25 kilometers.
"The missile has a built-in camera that allows it to be operated day or night," the PN spokesperson.
"The Spike NLOS weapon system can be operated in either direct attack or mid-course navigation based on target coordinates only. These modes enable defeat of long-range hidden targets, with pinpoint precision, damage assessment and the obtaining of real-time intelligence," weapon manufacturer Rafael said in its website.
Lincuna said the missiles will complement the AW-159s' detection and tracking equipment.
"The helicopters will be a full package, from detection, tracking, up to prosecution," he said. (PNA)

Penyerahan pesawat yang di Komandan Depohar 30 Kolonel Tek Edy Supriyono S.E kepada Komandan Skadron udara 4 Letkol Pnb Agung Perwira disaksikan oleh Komandan Sathar 32 Letkol Tek Dody Kurniadi dan para pejabat Depohar 30 beserta anggotanya.
“Setelah hampir tiga tahun tepatnya tanggal 27 Maret 2017 diserahkan ke Skadron Udara 4. Sathar 32 telah berhasil melakukan pengerjaan major servicing (servis berat) pesawat Angkut Ringan Casa 212 dibawah komando Komandan Sathar 32 Letkol Tek Dody Kurniadi, dan telah dilaksanakan test flight beberapa kali dengan hasil baik.” ungkap Komandan Depohar 30 Kolonel Tek Edy Supriyono S.E melalui Kepala Penerangan pangkalan TNI-AU Abd. Pesawat Casa 212 merupakan pesawat Angkut ringan buatan PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI) dengan nomor Type Engine TPE 331-10R-512C dan nomor Registrasi A-2108 masuk ke Sathar (Satuan Pemeliharaan) untuk pemeliharaan Major Servicing pada tanggal 24 Desemberr 2014 dan melaksanakan Test Flight 15 Maret s/d 20 maret 2017 pesawat tersebut telah dinyatakan Test Flight dengan baik, tambahnya.
Satuan Pemeliharaan 32 (Sathar 32), satuan pelaksana dibawah Depo Pemeliharaan 30 (Depohar 30) Lanud Abdulrachman Saleh Malang mempunyai tugas melaksanakan pembuatan/perbaikan tingkat berat beragam pesawat tempur dan Angkut Ringan dari jenis Casa C-212, Su-27/30, Super Tucano EMB 314 dan Hawk 100/200.

SHAH ALAM: Kuwaiti Hornets? There is a possibility that the excess fighter aircraft offered by Saudi Arabia are actually surplus Kuwaiti F/A-18 C/D Hornets. Former Combat AirForces editor Alan Warnes, who came for LIMA 17, tweeted today that “the RMAF has been offered surplus F/A-18C/D by Kuwait”.
Warnes did not state where he got the information on the Kuwaiti Hornets. This is interesting as in answers to my questions for LIMA 17, specifically on the Kuwaiti Hornets, the reply from RMAF chief Jen Affendi Buang was:
"RMAF already identified shortlisted new aircraft for its MRCA program. Currently, there is no plan in acquiring used aircraft to be used in country."
It was, for this reason, Malaysian Defence did not pursue the issue further during LIMA 17. Only to be sucker punched like this. So what gives? We are not sure but it will be a very interesting a couple of weeks doesn’t it?
And as for the surplus helicopters offered by the Saudis, it is likely to be Blackhawks based on conversations with several industry sources. But it is still early days, it was told.

Pada tanggal 27 Maret kemarin di beberapa sosial media diberitakan tentang kedatangan MBT (Main Battle Tank/tank tempur utama) Leopard 2RI di IPC (Indonesia Port Corporation) Car Terminal, Tanjung Priok, Jakarta.
Indonesia telah memesan 103 Tank Leopard 2 dari Jerman Barat yang terdiri dari 42 unit tipe Leopard 2A4 dan 61 unit tipe Leopard 2RI yang menurut skedul pengiriman dari Rheinmetall akan dikirim secara bergelombang.
Kiriman 42 tank Leopard 2A4 secara bergelombang telah lengkap diterima pada September 2015. Sedangkan kiriman tank Leopard 2RI juga dilakukan beberapa gelombang, pada bulan September 2016 telah diterima kiriman 24 unit, kemudian dilanjutkan 16 unit pada bulan Desember 2016. Masih tersisa 21 unit Leopard 2RI.
Dengan kedatangan 21 unit tank Leopard 2RI kali ini maka lengkaplah sudah 61 unit tank Leopard 2RI ini diterima Indonesia, melengkapi 42 unit tank Leopard 2A4 yang telah lebih dulu diterima, untuk selanjutnya MBT ini akan diserahkan kepada TNi AD sebagai penggunanya.

The options for Future Frigates (image : news)
The request for tender for the $35 billion Future Frigate Program has officially been brought forward and will be released to the tenderers this week.
Minister for Defence Industry Christopher Pyne made the announcement at an event in Canberra on Thursday, 23 March.
"The request for tender for the Future Frigate Program will be brought forward and will be released to the three tenderers by the end of next week," Minister Pyne said.
The three tenderers that were downselected for the program are Spanish firm Navantia, British multi-national corporation BAE Systems and Italian company Fincantieri.
The $35 billion project will see nine frigates built in Adelaide and will incorporate the Australian-developed CEA Phased-Array Radar.
Construction of the frigates is due to commence in 2020 and the first Future Frigate is expected to be in service in the late 2020s.
Minister Pyne praised the project for the economic and employment benefits it will create for South Australia.
"This $35 billion project will create thousands of jobs in my home state of South Australia," said Minister Pyne.
"It will create knock-on benefits up and down the supply chain across the country.
"The government is getting on with it, making good decisions as early as possible to give Australian industry and the ADF the certainty they seek."
Two of the designs being considered by the government for the project have docked in Adelaide in recent weeks.
Fincantieri's FREMM Class frigate visited Adelaide at the start of February. Minister Pyne toured the vessel and noted some of its advantages and disadvantages.
"One of the advantages for this company is this vessel has been built, it is already in operation," he said.
"One of the disadvantages is that the company doesn't operate here.
"The weaponry of course will be United States' weaponry. That will be integrated into the winning vessel."
Minister Pyne said the government is committed to ensuring a majority of the work on the vessels will be done in South Australia and Australia.
Minister Pyne also toured Navantia's ESPS Cristóbal Colón last week and discussed Australia's defence relationship with Spain.

Work begins for LIMA 2019
LANGKAWI: The next Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima) exhibition may be in 2019 but the two ministers involved are not taking a break.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said he would begin preparing right away with Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai on the 15th edition of the biennial show.
“I’m working with him to make a presentation to the Cabinet ... we will start work for 2019 now. It has not been easy but we need to move. We already launched the Defence Services Asia 2018 even before Lima 2017 ended. This shows how proactive we are,” the minister told a press conference to sum up Lima 2017 which closes here today.
Hishammuddin said guiding Lima towards the commercial and civil aviation sectors was the best way forward.
“This is because on the military side, we have reached a saturation point,” he said, adding that he was targeting Lima 2019 to have at least an equal focus on military and civil aviation.
He said he also wanted new global players involved with the next Lima show.
“The Transport Ministry has done a great job getting participants from the commercial sector.
“My advice to the (defence) industry is that they must be hungry, as they are fighting for a very limited global cake,” he added.
Hishammuddin said he wanted to see the involvement of new players, namely from the Middle East.
“I would like to see Saudi Arabia’s industries and its navy here. The UAE has got a very strong defence industry.
“These are the people who are going to be at Lima two years from now. If Russia and our traditional allies do not come up to speed, they will be left behind,” he added.
He said Lima 2017 was “successful beyond expectations”, with the largest attendance of both visitors and exhibitors.
On another matter, Hishammuddin did not want to say if his ministry had narrowed down the choice for the multi-role combat aircraft supply contract.
Asked if the ministry would settle for Eurofighter Typhoon by BAE Systems or the Rafale by Dassault Aviation, he said the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and the Saab Gripen “are still in the running”.
