Hanwha Aerospace of the Republic of Korea briefed the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF) on its various weapons systems during the official visit of General Songwit Noonpakdee, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, and the Thai military delegation from 5-7 February 2025.
In addition to the successful products exported to the Royal Thai Navy, the HTMS Bhumibol Dulyadej-class frigates of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) built by Hanwha Ocean, Republic of Korea (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, DSME) are looking to procure a second ship to be built in Thailand.
The Royal Thai Armed Forces Public Relations Center, Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, has announced on its official social media channels that Hanwha Aerospace has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Thai Defense Industry Co., Ltd. (TDI) of Thailand to develop an upgraded version of the K200 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) for the Royal Thai Army (RTA).

Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand announced the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Hanwha Ocean, Republic of Korea and TDI Thailand on the development of the modernized K200 IFV Infantry Fighting Vehicle for the Royal Thai Army and opportunities for export production to other countries, which took place on August 27, 2024, witnessed by Mr. Thani Sangrat, Thai Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.
TDI Thailand is a joint venture between the Defence Technology Institute (DTI), an agency of the Thai Ministry of Defence, and Chaiseri Metal & Rubber Co. Ltd., Thailand, with the objective of supporting private sector arms exports to foreign countries in the form of government-to-government agreements.
TDI has successfully obtained a contract to export Chaiseri Thailand's products, the First Win 4x4 wheeled armored vehicle, to many foreign countries in 2024 .

The primary user is the Republic of Korea Army (RoKA), with over 2,500 in various versions ranging from K200A1 APC armored personnel carriers, KM120 120mm and K281 81mm self-propelled mortar launchers, K236 20mm self-propelled anti-aircraft guns and K288 recovery vehicles, with 111 also exported to the Malaysian Army (Tentera Darat Malaysia) in the 2000s.
In August 2024, Hanwha Aerospace, together with Malaysian company Cendana Auto, was awarded a contract by the Malaysian Ministry of Defence to upgrade the Royal Malaysian Army's K200 IFV, which includes the installation of new day/night vision devices, a new Remote-Control Weapon Station (RCWS), new engines and technology transfer to establish a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) center in Malaysia.

A comparison test was made in Poland in order to compare reliability of the Polish PT-91 and Leopard 2A4 tanks. It appeared that tanks with similar mileage (19 000 km) showed different results. Distance between failures of the PT-91 was only 25 km and it took on average 3.2 days to repair the tank. On the other hand distance between failures of the Leopard 2A4 tank was 174 km and it took on average 1.3 days to repair the tank. Most failures of the PT-91 Twardy were related to its engine, electrical installation, armament, fire control system, and communication systems. So the ageing PT-91 tanks can be seen as rather unreliable combat vehicles, that are troublesome to keep in operational order.

Menjawap soalan Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (PN-Tanah Merah), beliau berkata,program LEP itu akan dijangka akan didaftarkan dalam Rancangan Malon ke-12 (RMK-12) atau RMK-13.
“Selain itu, pihak Tentera Darat Malon juga sedang merancang untuk melaksanakan Life Extension Programme (LEP) ke atas Kereta Kebal PENDEKAR dan dijangka akan didaftarkan dalam RMK-12 atau RMK-13,” kata beliau.

Ikmal Hisham yang juga merupakan bekas Timbalan Menteri Pertahanan mahu mengetahui perancangan Tentera Darat Malon berkenaan pelan masa hadapan aset kereta kebal “Pendekar” PT-91M mengambil kira syarikat Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) iaitu Bumar Laberdy daripada Poland sudah menghentikan pengeluaran alat ganti kereta kebal jenis itu.

Offshore fabricator and shipbuilder TH Heavy Engineering Bhd (THHE) is undertaking a voluntary winding-up, a year after it was delisted from Bursa Malonn.
The company resolved to undertake voluntary winding-up as it is unable to continue its operations due to liabilities, it said in a winding-up notice dated Sept 13.
The winding-up notice also stated that a meeting of creditors is scheduled for Oct 4 at 3pm.
THHE is controlled by the Ministry of Finance-owned (MoF) unit Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd, which holds a 64.45% stake in the company prior to its delisting on Sept 5, 2022
TH Heavy was delisted from Bursa Malonn in September 2022, after failing to come up with a restructuring exercise despite being given eight extensions by the exchange since first entering Practice Note 17 status in April 2018.
The decision to wind up came after THHE filed an ex-parte originating summons in July to call for a creditors’ meeting to propose a scheme of arrangement for the company.
Global Mariner Offshore Services, Blackstone Technology Sdn Bhd and Dynac Sdn Bhd have reportedly filed applications to intervene in THHE’s ex-parte application.
THHE had a joint venture partnership with Global Mariner, but a legal dispute arose between the two companies. The High Court ordered THHE to pay Global Mariner approximately RM288.72 million in damages.

Local shipyards have poor record building big ships. LCS is one, Kedah is the first. The MMEA OPV is the other one. No need to be a cheerleader about it and trying to play it safe. It’s bad then it’s bad. Can blame the system, blame the politicians, blame the lack of controls, blame the people, the fact remains the local shipyards failed to deliver, and it has cost RMN. Less we forget, BNS (from the days of PSC-ND) had more than 20+ years to learn building complex ships. Also, the shipbuilding pipeline is too limited to support a local industry, meaning there is no learning possible – BNS (and its predecessor PSC-ND) only had contract to build 12 warships in its existence. In fact, come 2030, after 30 years, if we’re lucky the shipyard would still only have built 11 ships. In contrast ST Engineering had more than 40 ships over 28 years and have confirmed 6 new ships out to 2030. Learning is one thing, tolerating “still learning” after 20 plus years is not good enough. Not recognising learning is not possible because of limited pipeline is another. Local shipyards have proven capable of building certain type of ships because of good pipeline, so good for them that they win those contract – they can learn over time to build bigger ships. But for now, no need to be a cheerleader for local shipyards pitching to win big ships for RMN and MMEA

Local shipyards have poor record building big ships. LCS is one, Kedah is the first. The MMEA OPV is the other one. No need to be a cheerleader about it and trying to play it safe. It’s bad then it’s bad. Can blame the system, blame the politicians, blame the lack of controls, blame the people, the fact remains the local shipyards failed to deliver, and it has cost RMN. Less we forget, BNS (from the days of PSC-ND) had more than 20+ years to learn building complex ships. Also, the shipbuilding pipeline is too limited to support a local industry, meaning there is no learning possible – BNS (and its predecessor PSC-ND) only had contract to build 12 warships in its existence. In fact, come 2030, after 30 years, if we’re lucky the shipyard would still only have built 11 ships. In contrast ST Engineering had more than 40 ships over 28 years and have confirmed 6 new ships out to 2030. Learning is one thing, tolerating “still learning” after 20 plus years is not good enough. Not recognising learning is not possible because of limited pipeline is another. Local shipyards have proven capable of building certain type of ships because of good pipeline, so good for them that they win those contract – they can learn over time to build bigger ships. But for now, no need to be a cheerleader for local shipyards pitching to win big ships for RMN and MMEA

Saifuddin berkata TDSB turut dikenakan LAD di atas kelewatan penyiapan kapal OPV 1 yang berjumlah RM5.58 juta [AS$1.26 juta] dan RM9,600 [AS$2,167] bagi kelewatan pembekalan baki 12 unit General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) serta pembekalan Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) bermula 1 Oktober 2024 hingga tarikh penerimaan oleh kerajaan.

Offshore fabricator and shipbuilder TH Heavy Engineering Bhd (THHE) is undertaking a voluntary winding-up, a year after it was delisted from Bursa Malonn.
The company resolved to undertake voluntary winding-up as it is unable to continue its operations due to liabilities, it said in a winding-up notice dated Sept 13.
The winding-up notice also stated that a meeting of creditors is scheduled for Oct 4 at 3pm.
THHE is controlled by the Ministry of Finance-owned (MoF) unit Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd, which holds a 64.45% stake in the company prior to its delisting on Sept 5, 2022
TH Heavy was delisted from Bursa Malonn in September 2022, after failing to come up with a restructuring exercise despite being given eight extensions by the exchange since first entering Practice Note 17 status in April 2018.
The decision to wind up came after THHE filed an ex-parte originating summons in July to call for a creditors’ meeting to propose a scheme of arrangement for the company.
Global Mariner Offshore Services, Blackstone Technology Sdn Bhd and Dynac Sdn Bhd have reportedly filed applications to intervene in THHE’s ex-parte application.
THHE had a joint venture partnership with Global Mariner, but a legal dispute arose between the two companies. The High Court ordered THHE to pay Global Mariner approximately RM288.72 million in damages.

Offshore fabricator and shipbuilder TH Heavy Engineering Bhd (THHE) is undertaking a voluntary winding-up, a year after it was delisted from Bursa Malonn.
The company resolved to undertake voluntary winding-up as it is unable to continue its operations due to liabilities, it said in a winding-up notice dated Sept 13.
The winding-up notice also stated that a meeting of creditors is scheduled for Oct 4 at 3pm.
THHE is controlled by the Ministry of Finance-owned (MoF) unit Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd, which holds a 64.45% stake in the company prior to its delisting on Sept 5, 2022
TH Heavy was delisted from Bursa Malonn in September 2022, after failing to come up with a restructuring exercise despite being given eight extensions by the exchange since first entering Practice Note 17 status in April 2018.
The decision to wind up came after THHE filed an ex-parte originating summons in July to call for a creditors’ meeting to propose a scheme of arrangement for the company.
Global Mariner Offshore Services, Blackstone Technology Sdn Bhd and Dynac Sdn Bhd have reportedly filed applications to intervene in THHE’s ex-parte application.
THHE had a joint venture partnership with Global Mariner, but a legal dispute arose between the two companies. The High Court ordered THHE to pay Global Mariner approximately RM288.72 million in damages.

Menteri Dalam Negeri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail berkata susulan penamatan yang ditandatangani pada 31 Disember lalu, syarikat itu dikenakan kadar denda dan ganti rugi ditetapkan (LAD) sebanyak RM12.49 juta [AS$2.82 juta] di atas kelewatan menyiapkan kapal OPV 2 dan OPV 3.
Beliau berkata keputusan itu dipersetujui oleh Kabinet pada 22 Mac 2024 sebelum ia dilaksanakan.

Local shipyards have poor record building big ships. LCS is one, Kedah is the first. The MMEA OPV is the other one. No need to be a cheerleader about it and trying to play it safe. It’s bad then it’s bad. Can blame the system, blame the politicians, blame the lack of controls, blame the people, the fact remains the local shipyards failed to deliver, and it has cost RMN. Less we forget, BNS (from the days of PSC-ND) had more than 20+ years to learn building complex ships. Also, the shipbuilding pipeline is too limited to support a local industry, meaning there is no learning possible – BNS (and its predecessor PSC-ND) only had contract to build 12 warships in its existence. In fact, come 2030, after 30 years, if we’re lucky the shipyard would still only have built 11 ships. In contrast ST Engineering had more than 40 ships over 28 years and have confirmed 6 new ships out to 2030. Learning is one thing, tolerating “still learning” after 20 plus years is not good enough. Not recognising learning is not possible because of limited pipeline is another. Local shipyards have proven capable of building certain type of ships because of good pipeline, so good for them that they win those contract – they can learn over time to build bigger ships. But for now, no need to be a cheerleader for local shipyards pitching to win big ships for RMN and MMEA

Local shipyards have poor record building big ships. LCS is one, Kedah is the first. The MMEA OPV is the other one. No need to be a cheerleader about it and trying to play it safe. It’s bad then it’s bad. Can blame the system, blame the politicians, blame the lack of controls, blame the people, the fact remains the local shipyards failed to deliver, and it has cost RMN. Less we forget, BNS (from the days of PSC-ND) had more than 20+ years to learn building complex ships. Also, the shipbuilding pipeline is too limited to support a local industry, meaning there is no learning possible – BNS (and its predecessor PSC-ND) only had contract to build 12 warships in its existence. In fact, come 2030, after 30 years, if we’re lucky the shipyard would still only have built 11 ships. In contrast ST Engineering had more than 40 ships over 28 years and have confirmed 6 new ships out to 2030. Learning is one thing, tolerating “still learning” after 20 plus years is not good enough. Not recognising learning is not possible because of limited pipeline is another. Local shipyards have proven capable of building certain type of ships because of good pipeline, so good for them that they win those contract – they can learn over time to build bigger ships. But for now, no need to be a cheerleader for local shipyards pitching to win big ships for RMN and MMEA

NGPVs DIBAYAR 27 JADI 6 = The Kedah-class offshore patrol vessels of the Royal Malonnn Navy (RMN) are six ships based on the MEKO 100 design by Blohm + Voss. Originally, a total of 27 ships were planned, but due to programme delays and overruns, only six were eventually ordered. Their construction began in the early 2000s, and by 2009, all six were in active service.

Saifuddin berkata TDSB turut dikenakan LAD di atas kelewatan penyiapan kapal OPV 1 yang berjumlah RM5.58 juta [AS$1.26 juta] dan RM9,600 [AS$2,167] bagi kelewatan pembekalan baki 12 unit General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) serta pembekalan Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) bermula 1 Oktober 2024 hingga tarikh penerimaan oleh kerajaan.

Local shipyards have poor record building big ships. LCS is one, Kedah is the first. The MMEA OPV is the other one. No need to be a cheerleader about it and trying to play it safe. It’s bad then it’s bad. Can blame the system, blame the politicians, blame the lack of controls, blame the people, the fact remains the local shipyards failed to deliver, and it has cost RMN. Less we forget, BNS (from the days of PSC-ND) had more than 20+ years to learn building complex ships. Also, the shipbuilding pipeline is too limited to support a local industry, meaning there is no learning possible – BNS (and its predecessor PSC-ND) only had contract to build 12 warships in its existence. In fact, come 2030, after 30 years, if we’re lucky the shipyard would still only have built 11 ships. In contrast ST Engineering had more than 40 ships over 28 years and have confirmed 6 new ships out to 2030. Learning is one thing, tolerating “still learning” after 20 plus years is not good enough. Not recognising learning is not possible because of limited pipeline is another. Local shipyards have proven capable of building certain type of ships because of good pipeline, so good for them that they win those contract – they can learn over time to build bigger ships. But for now, no need to be a cheerleader for local shipyards pitching to win big ships for RMN and MMEA

Offshore fabricator and shipbuilder TH Heavy Engineering Bhd (THHE) is undertaking a voluntary winding-up, a year after it was delisted from Bursa Malonn.
The company resolved to undertake voluntary winding-up as it is unable to continue its operations due to liabilities, it said in a winding-up notice dated Sept 13.
The winding-up notice also stated that a meeting of creditors is scheduled for Oct 4 at 3pm.
THHE is controlled by the Ministry of Finance-owned (MoF) unit Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd, which holds a 64.45% stake in the company prior to its delisting on Sept 5, 2022
TH Heavy was delisted from Bursa Malonn in September 2022, after failing to come up with a restructuring exercise despite being given eight extensions by the exchange since first entering Practice Note 17 status in April 2018.
The decision to wind up came after THHE filed an ex-parte originating summons in July to call for a creditors’ meeting to propose a scheme of arrangement for the company.
Global Mariner Offshore Services, Blackstone Technology Sdn Bhd and Dynac Sdn Bhd have reportedly filed applications to intervene in THHE’s ex-parte application.
