Batalyon Kavaleri 3/AC terbentuk pada tanggal 1 Juli 1952 yang beralamat di Desa Randuagung Kecamatan Singosari Kabupaten Malang Jawa Timur.
Seiring dengan dinamika perjuangan Bangsa dalam menegakkan Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia dan mengisi kemerdekaan, maka Batalyon Kavaleri 3/AC telah mengalami banyak pengalaman sesuai dengan perkembangan sejarah Bangsa.
Yonkav 3/AC merupakan salah satu satuan pelaksana Kodam V/Brawijaya mempunyai tugas pokok melaksanakan pertempuran didarat secara mobil dengan menggunakan kendaraan tempur berlapis baja sebagai alat utamanya dalam rangka mendukung tugas pokok Kodam V/Brawijaya.
Dalam pelaksanaan tugas pokok Satuan Yonkav 3/AC telah banyak mengalami kemajuan dan keberhasilan, hal ini didukung oleh adanya dedikasi, semangat juang dan pengabdian serta jiwa korsa satuan yang tinggi.
Keberhasilan tugas pokok satuan juga tidak terlepas dari peran serta sumbangsih para sesepuh dan pendiri satuan, yang telah bersusah payah membangun satuan demi terwujudnya Yonkav 3/AC yang handal dan dapat dibanggakan.
