The first Littoral Combat Ship officially underwent Sea Going on 28 January 2026, with Lumut Naval Shipyard (LUNAS) Chief Executive Officer, Ir. Azhar Jumaat, on-site to witness this significant milestone. The operation was led by our talented local team, reflecting strong esprit de corps, professionalism and unwavering commitment.
Kudos to the entire LCS team for their dedication and collective effort in making this achievement possible. Bravo Zulu!

1) new CMS. The existing Atlas Elektronik COSYS-110M1 CMS on Kedahs are already 2 decades old without any upgrades.

2) TRS-3D radar. This should still be operationally capable. There are issues with the GAPU TRS-3D maintenance recently, but i hope that is not relatable to TLDM. Is it worthwhile to upgrade? Leave it as is? Or change to something cheap & new from Turkiye?

3) air defence missiles. Do we have the budget for it? Upgrading offensive systems while leaving it at risk of being sunk by enemy SSM/AShM is not a good plan.

Anyhow it would involve lots of money. Hundreds of million USD for sure. Is it worth it? I am of the opinion that it is not. Threat perceptions has changed, and i think a lightly armed ship like the kedah class is not suitable for wartime missions. So i am for leaving the Kedah class to remain as OPV under APMM control.

The Defence Ministry has walked back its written answer published in Parliament on January 28. The original written reply had stated that the government has approved the funding for the surface-to-surface missiles for the Kedah class upgrade and the solution was the Naval Strike Missile (NSM).
The amended copy did not mentioned NSM at all and though the overall meaning was still the same, it appears that the SSM meant for the Kedah class could be something else

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 JAN - Kerajaan hari ini secara rasmi mengesahkan bahawa penyerahan Kapal Tempur Pesisir (LCS) pertama kepada Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM) tidak akan dapat dilaksanakan pada tarikh sasaran Ogos 2026, sebaliknya ditunda selama empat bulan ke Disember 2026.
Menteri Pertahanan, Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin membuat pengumuman penting itu semasa sesi soal jawab lisan di Dewan Rakyat. Beliau turut memperincikan bahawa kelewatan tersebut turut memberi kesan kepada kapal kedua (LCS 2) yang kini dijadualkan untuk penyerahan pada Ogos 2027.
Dalam penjelasan beliau, Mohamed Khaled mendedahkan bahawa kelewatan ini berpunca daripada dua faktor kritikal iaitu kelewatan penghantaran peralatan daripada Pengeluar Peralatan Asal (OEM) dan keperluan mendesak untuk melakukan kerja-kerja pemasangan semula (re-work) ke atas sistem perpaipan dan kabel kapal susulan teguran audit teknikal.
"Berdasarkan maklum balas oleh LUNAS yang dikemukakan kepada pasukan projek, jadual pentauhan kapal LCS 1 dipinda ke bulan Disember 2026. Maknanya memang ada lewat empat bulan. Manakala bagi kapal LCS 2 pula dipinda ke Ogos 2027," kata beliau semasa menjawab pertanyaan di Dewan Rakyat.
Beliau turut menjelaskan secara spesifik mengenai isu teknikal yang menyumbang kepada kelewatan ini, di mana Pihak Berkuasa Reka Bentuk (Design Authority), Naval Group, telah mengarahkan supaya penambahbaikan dilakukan demi keselamatan kapal.
"Naval Group buat audit, lihat supaya semua kerja berjalan sebagaimana spesifikasi, dan mereka telah membuat teguran supaya ditambah baik ataupun re-work pemasangan perpaipan dan juga kabel. Untuk makluman ada 4,000 unit paip, jadi diminta supaya dikaji semula dan dipasang semula," jelas Menteri Pertahanan.
Selain itu, Mohamed Khaled turut memperbetulkan persepsi umum mengenai status ujian laut kapal tersebut. Beliau menjelaskan bahawa ujian laut penuh (sea trial) yang melibatkan sistem tempur dan persenjataan sebenarnya belum bermula dan kini dijadualkan semula ke April 2025. Aktiviti kapal yang dilihat di perairan ketika ini hanyalah fasa sea going yang memfokuskan kepada pengujian sistem jentera dan kuasa semata-mata.
"Sea trial yang sepatutnya buat Oktober 2025, belum mula lagi. Sekarang saya nak beritahu, sea trial memang juga lambat, akan mula April 2026 ni," tegas beliau bagi menjawab kekeliruan yang dibangkitkan oleh Ahli Parlimen Tanah Merah mengenai keadaan fizikal kapal yang didakwa kelihatan usang.
Walaupun berdepan kelewatan pada dua kapal pertama, Mohamed Khaled memberikan jaminan bahawa jadual bagi kapal ketiga, keempat dan kelima tidak terjejas dan kekal mengikut perancangan asal, dengan kapal terakhir LCS 5 disasarkan siap pada April 2029.-airtimes.my

I would say “DENGAR BOLEH PERCAYA JANGAN”
1. Politicians are not good at keeping their plan. Policy is changed depend on who is sitting on driver seat.
2. The gov is struggling to meet 36 units of FA-50. No fund will available in 2030.
3. RMAF is not ready to operate 5th gen fighters. Operating 5th gen is about networked environment not platform.
4. 5th gen fighter is costly in operating and maintaining which need significant increment in annual military budget.
5. Other branches and MMEA are under equipt that need attention.
6. Many homework should be done first such as LCS, OPV, SPH, used hornet etc.
In short, it is all about LIMA. This is just old gimmick because LIMA has less attractive and the EO has run of option to make LIMA great again.
